In October of 2017 news broke that shook the very foundation of my Netflix list, One Tree Hill would no longer be available for my viewing pleasure. I would no longer have the option to return to Tree Hill, NC to catch up with my old friends Nathan, Lucas, Haley, Brooke, Peyton, and the gang. To cry, laugh, and cheer them on as they reached their dreams. Since October the most connection I've had with Tree Hill is scream singing "I Don't Wanna Be" in my car. However, last month Hulu answered all our prayers and brought One Tree Hill back to us. Its time for Netflix to follow suit and here's why
Brooke Penelope Davis
Brooke probably grew the most out of anyone in the entire series. She went from spoiled, rich cheerleader to owning her own fashion line and having one of the biggest hearts in Tree Hill. She forgave Peyton and Lucas not once, but twice and was one of the only people who was nice to Haley when she came back from tour. She was always there for the people she loved even when they didn't necessarily deserve it. She worked hard and earned her happy ending. She realized that happy endings don't just happen, but you have to put forth the effort, make things happen, and let certain things go. She shows that people truly can change if they want to and are willing to work for it. Brooke Davis really could rule the world and should be a role model for girls everywhere.
Not Being the Victim
Tree Hill had an abnormal amount of crazies visit their town that is for sure. However, through it all our Ravens fought back and took their town back. Whether is was Peyton channeling her fear and anger towards her fake brother Derek and learning to fight back and not be afraid, Brooke fighting back when she was attacked, Haley fighting to get her son and her husband back, or Karen raising a child alone and having to see her ass of an ex all around town. The women of Tree Hill were strong and fought for themselves and each other. They showed that yes bad things happen and it's okay to break down, but nothings gonna change unless you make it. They were the victims of lots of horrible things that I can only imagine, but after a certain amount of time they stopped allowing themselves to feel like a victim, took action, and fought back. Either physically or emotionally they picked up the pieces of their lives and put it back together and were stronger for it.
Naley
Yes, I am fully aware of how unrealistic and how high Nathan and Haley Scott set the bar for all future relationships. However, in a world full of sexual harassment and abuse scandals literring our TV screens we need an example to show girls how they deserve to be treated and what a healthy relationship looks like. Nathan and Haley will do just that. They put each other first and grow together, but not apart. When they have problems they work through them and never give up on each other and their love. They show that love isn't always easy, but if its true and both partners are willing to work then it will all work. They show that always and forever is real and we can all have it.
The Scott Brothers
Not only are they crazy fun to look at, but Nathan and Lucas Scott are to epitome of what every girl should be looking for in a future husband. While Nathan started out as a class A jerk he worked on himself and changed for the girl he loved and became an amazing husband and father to Jamie and Lydia. Lucas started out as the nice, sensitive guy then made some questionable decisions and Nathan quickly became the favorite Scott brother. While Nathan will always be my personal favorite, the fact that Lucas owned up to his screw ups and honestly tried to change and got back to the nice guy we all know and love makes me love him even more. While we didn't get to see him as a father we got to see him be a wonderful uncle to Jamie and with Keith as a role model we know he did great. Nathan and Lucas were always there for the people they loved and while not always making the best decisions they always tried to do what was best. The Scott brothers will always have a piece of my heart.
The Soundtrack
Peyton Sawyer was the resident music buff and always seemed to have the right song to describe any thing you were possibly feeling, and just like Peyton Mark Schwahn basically made the music another character. Whether is was making Haley go on tour in season 2, and ripping our hearts are, opening a night club where the characters got to hear their favorite bands, or the opening of the recording studio and introducing us to new music OTH always had the right songs. My favorite and most random musical moment from Tree Hill was in season 3 when Peyton dated Pete from Fall Out Boy for like 3 episodes. Not only is "I Don't Wanna Be" and forever bop now, but there are also songs that speak right to the soul. In fact, the music was such an important part of the show they have 3 official albums and even a website completely dedicated to the music. The last scene were everyone sings "I Don't Wanna Be" will get you every time no matter how many times you've seen it and thats okay.
p.s. here's the link to the music site. It's actually kind of fun to look at http://oth-music.com/index.html
These and many other reasons are why everyone deserves to watch One Tree Hill. It teaches and entertains and will always have a piece of my heart. So, Netflix, it's your move. Are you going to continue denying us of our Scott brother fix? Are you not going to allow me to learn about friendship, strength, and true love? The answers to these questions should be no and I expect One Tree Hill back on Netflix very soon.
Thank you,
