The most obvious favorite characters from Grey’s Anatomy are Alex Karev, or Owen Hunt, or even Meredith Grey. But my favorite doctor at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital is definitely Miranda Bailey. Here’s why:
1. She raised those interns.
Meredith, Christine, Izzy, Alex and George would have been nothing without Bailey. She was with them from the very beginning when they started out as maybe the most dysfunctional interns to ever work at Seattle Grace Hospital. Bailey helped them all make it to residents, even through all their troubles. I mean Izzy even cut someone’s L-VAC wires so Denny could survive! Bailey had a lot to deal with.
2. She goes through crap but always comes back.
Bailey’s survived the death of her favorite intern, a mass shooting, an ugly divorce and plenty else besides. This woman has been through it all and only emerged stronger!
3. She was an attending and a single mom at the same time.
Her first husband honestly never deserved her. I’ve been re-watching old episodes where Tuck Sr. tried to get her to choose between her family and her career. Well, Miranda Bailey chose herself and what was best for her. She had to be an attending and a single mother at the same time, and she kicked butt doing it. Later, she got with Ben the Babe, so it all worked out in the end.
4. She’s risen above sexism and racism to become Chief.
Do you remember when she refused to continue high heels as Chief of Surgery just because she was a woman? And when she operated on a freaking Nazi?! ‘Cause I do, and it makes her such a BAMF.
5. She’s a natural-born leader with a heart of gold.
Bailey truly shows that a woman can be tough and vulnerable at the same time, even if they aren’t always represented that way in the media. She snaps at idiots but also cuddles with sick kids in peds. She truly does it all. And for that, I say:
