It was hard, but I narrowed down my top 5 books that I recommend every single person reads!

1. Everyday by David Levithan

David Levithan is one of my favorite authors. He's written so many great books, but this was the first one I read and it's what made me fall in love with his writing style. He's a very relatable author in the sense that all of his characters are well-thought out and easy to get to know. This book is about a person who does not have a specified gender, and who wakes up every day in a different body and lives that person's life for a day. Then things happen and get a bit complicated, so I'm not going to explain any further — you're just gonna have to read the book to know! Another book by him that you should check out is "Will Grayson," which is a book that he and John Green co-wrote. They each write from a different Will's perspective, and it's so cool to see the different but similar writing styles they each have!

2. The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

Y'all. This book. THIS BOOK makes me feel so many things. Jeannette Walls took her childhood and wrote a book about some of the amazing yet horrifying things she and her family went through while she was growing up. It's a book of ups and downs and happy tears and sad tears. I've read this book so many times I could probably recite the whole thing from memory. It's SO GOOD.

PS, they also made a movie of this book.

3. Staying Strong by Demi Lovato

To say Demi is my idol is an understatement. This book gives you a page of inspiration every single day. When I first got this book, I wasn't in the best place mentally, and this book truly truly truly helped me get out of bed every morning. Knowing that I could read another page the next day helped me go to sleep at night, too. Demi is truly an inspiration, and whether you're going through a tough time or not, this is a great read.

4. What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey

This book was given to me for my birthday by one of my best friends, and man did she know how to pick a book. This book is another book to read if you're needing some inspiration. Oprah goes into detail about her life and what struggles she had to go through before she became as successful as she is today. This really inspires me because sometimes we forget that some celebrities weren't just born as celebrities. They had a "real persons' life" and they probably had money struggles and family problems and they still might have those problems! But this book just really puts things into perspective for me and helps me realize that success doesn't just come overnight, and it doesn't always come early in life. Sometimes you have to wait decades for your time to shine, but that doesn't mean it isn't going to come. Life will always find a way to work itself out; you just have to be patient.

5. Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

This is actually a trilogy, and I loved every book more than the last. This is about a boy trying to figure out his grandfather's life as a child and all of the amazing "peculiar" beings he meets along the way. From the first chapter, this book had me hooked and wanting to read more and more and more. If you like fictional stories, this book series would be great for you!

PS again, there's a movie for this one too!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
