5 Festive Foods You Can Make This Fall

While the spookiest time of year has just passed, I thought I would dedicate an article to the spookiest of holidays. Halloween is a time for people to play make-believe, eat lots of candy while spending time with their family and friends. It’s a fun and whimsicaltime before we transition into this hectic holiday season.

Many people have Halloween traditions, whether it is trick-or-treating, watching Hocus Pocus, or carving jack-o-lanterns, there are so many fun festivities that go along with Halloween.

The tradition that I look forward to the most would have to be all of the delicious food my family makes for all Hallows Eve. This day has always been a time for cooking at my house, and for as long as I can remember my family has been making the same recipes. From savory appetizers to sweet desserts, these are the foods that remind me of home during the Fall.

1. Bean and Corn Dip

Starting at the top of the list we have, Bean and Corn Dip. This dip is absolutely incredible andI always look forward to snacking on this before the Halloween festivities begin. The mix of spicy black beans, chilled corn, and feta cheese is simply extraordinary. What’s even better we always use Frito’s chips to scoop the dip up with. Which let’s be honest nothing beats Fritos chips.

2. Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Coming up as number 2 on my list is roasted pumpkin seeds. These little guys are crunchy, crispy, salty, and utterly addictive. The mix of savory spices creates a magical and unbeatable combination.

3. Chicken Tortilla Soup

Next, as number 3 on the list, we have chicken tortilla soup. As the weather is typically cooler at the end of October, this soup is comforting, hearty, and flavorful, and it’s always nice to have this to warm up with. We top our soup with cilantro, crispy tortilla chips, and avocado, and it is the perfect Halloween dinner.

4. Pumpkin Bread

Rounding up as number 4 on my list is the beloved pumpkin bread. I don’t think it would be the autumn season without pumpkin flavored sustenances. This moist delicious bread is baked with a variety of holiday spices and it truly is the perfect ending to the Halloween night.

So there you have it those are the 4 Halloween foods that I look forward to eating, cooking, and enjoying with my friends and family. They remind and make me appreciate this frightful yet magical holiday!

5. Honorary Mention: Candy!

It wouldn't be the trick-or-treating holiday without good-ole store bought wrapped candy, now would it? So I had to end my list with these timeless sweet treats. Every year it’s a tradition that my Dad goes out and buys the candy. He always gets a little bit of everything because he says, “he wants everyone to be happy”. So we hand out Snickers, Reese's, Milky Way, Twix, Kit-Kat, M&M’s, Peanut M&M’s, and lollipops to all the trick-or-treaters!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
