5 Essentials For Throwing The Perfect Galentine's Day Party

The best day of the year is officially here, and if you're wondering how to celebrate Galentine's Day, you've come to the right place. Galentine's Day, according to the effervescent land mermaid Leslie Knope, occurs on Feb. 13, and is all about "ladies celebratin' ladies." Therefore, a killer party is a must. Here's what you'll need to ring in this should-be national holiday in style:

1. Waffles

Leslie Knope puts waffles at the top of her priorities list; therefore, it only makes sense that your Galentine's Day party include this delectable bressert (breakfast + dessert). But don't stop there! Add chocolate chips, strawberries, whipped cream, anything to make your meal extra special because as a lady, you deserve it.

2. Girly Decorations

You don't have to be a girly girl to appreciate the shimmer and sparkle of Galentine's Day decorations. Add a splash of pink to your party with large balloons, bright flowers, and pretty placemats. Also, you can pick out some cheap metallic confetti to sprinkle across the table, and don't forget to add some twinkle to the room by reusing your Christmas lights. You'll have a party that's as beautiful as your friendship.

3. Galentines

Don't feel pressure to spend big bucks on your Galentines. Instead, print out "Parks and Recreation"-themed Galentines online or design your own using construction paper, markers and glue. Galentine's Day isn't about money, remember? It's about ladies celebratin' ladies, so show the special gals in your life how much you care by making personalized cards from scratch. You can even scribble your favorite Leslie Knope compliments on them, such as:

-Oh, (name), you beautiful, rule-breaking moth.

-Oh, (name), you cunning, pliable, chestnut-haired sunfish.

-Oh, (name), you beautiful, talented, brilliant muskox.

4. Stories of Past Loves

Leslie Knope commemorates Galentine's Day every year by listening to her mother tell a story about the "one who got away". Therefore, go around the table and ask your friends to tell their most romantic, butterfly-belly stories. If one sticks out, have your lady friend tell it every year. If it involves a hot swimmer and a beach, chances are it's close to Leslie Knope's mom's romance tale.

5. Your gals!

There's no Leslie Knope without Ann Perkins, and you, too, probably have a noble land mermaid in your life. Therefore, gather all of your fiercest lady friends for a night of fun and girl time, because that's what Galentine's Day is all about. Do what you girls love to do, whether it's going all out with streamers and waffle sundaes or watching "Fixer Upper" in your pajamas. There's no Galentine's Day without your gals, so live it up together!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
