The Winter Olympics are here! To commemorate some of the past events, here are some of the strangest competitive events from past Olympic games:

1. Curling

This famous sport is seen as "chess on ice." In this sport, a polished stone is slid across the ice. Two members have brooms and sweep the area in front of the sliding rock to smooth the path and make the ice smoother. Whichever team makes the rock slide the farthest, wins the game.

2. Skeleton

In this sport, a person belly flops onto a sled and races down a track to the finish line. This sport does not require much skill or grace, and there are no brakes on the sled.

3. Luge

This is a sport that includes a narrow sled gliding down a mountain an incredibly fast speed. This sport is extremely dangerous to the point where people have died in this event. A person lays on his back and slides down a steep mountain, and this is seen as the most dangerous sport in all of the Winter Olympics.

4. Bandy

Soccer and Hockey, two of the worlds favorite pastimes, combined together makes the winter sport Bandy. The only difference is that they use a ball instead of a puck. This isn't particularly strange but it is a little weird seeing competitive players attempting to wack a single ball on an ice rink with sticks, especially since such game already exists.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
