Growing up I always wanted a dog, but my mom wasn’t a pet person so I never had my own pet at my house. When I went away to college, my family finally adopted a puppy. At first I didn’t bond very well with Mo and I didn’t understand why they had to get a puppy who cried all the time and was scared of everything, but the more time I spent with Mo the more I grew to love him. Now I couldn’t imagine my life without him. Here’s how my dog has changed my life.
Hygiene and Body Care
I never would have imagined picking up dog poop or cleaning out dog ears 10 years ago, but when you have no choice, you do it. No one else in my life cleans the dogs ears or gives him medicine when he has an infection. And there’s no way I can stand to see him in pain, therefore I’m the official dog ear cleaner.
Cuddling
Mo loves to snuggle and sometimes he just wants to cuddle up on your lap (all 90 pounds of him) and be loved. I’ve never been a touchy feely person or liked to cuddle, but when a dog puts his sweet head on your lap, how can you say no?
Taking Care of Another Living Being
I never had to take care of anyone or anything before Mo. Having a living thing depend on you for survival is eye opening and it makes you better person. It make you less selfish and more caring.
Unconditional Love
The best part about having a pet is the unconditional love they give you. They don’t care what you look like or how much money you have. They’re always happy to see you when you get home and they never stay mad at you for long.
I believe having pet can truly change a person and make you a better person in the long run.
