Most people buy a a nice camera with no prior knowledge of its usage or functionalities, and getting an action shot that isn't blurry is nearly impossible, until now. Here is a list of 3 ways you can get the perfect action shot without using a setting or the automatic mode.
Set your aperture.
The aperture of a camera is an adjustable opening inside the lens used to control the amount of light in your photo. It is represented by an f-number seen on your camera's menu screen. If you are wanting to get an action shot that is blur-free, then your aperture needs to be set at f-10 or less, the smaller number the better. To do this, you must hold down the AV button (on a Canon it is the same button as the delete button) and turn the dial located behind the button that takes the shots.
Set your shutter speed.
The shutter speed is the amount of time it takes for your lens to take a picture. Since action shots are fast, you want a fast shutter speed as well, which is generally 1/250 or less. To do this, simply rotate the same dial you used for the aperture. You do not need to hold down any other buttons.
Set your meter.
The meter is used to ensure your photo is properly exposed. Underexposure creates a very dark image, and overexposure causes an image to be too light. The meter ranges from -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, and can be seen when you look through your camera viewfinder. Look into the viewfinder and push the shutter button half-way down until you see the meter appear at the bottom of the viewfinder screen. Then, rotate the dial that changes the shutter speed until your meter is at a happy zero. This will show you exactly what number your shutter speed should be at and will produce an image with the perfect light exposure.
