Picking what college you want to go to is probably one of the hardest decisions you have ever made. While many people decided to go to school close to home, there are many of us who picked schools that are 5+ hours away from home. It may have been to escape your home life or because that school offered the best education for you. Either way you made your decision for a reason! Now that college is your home for the next 4 years, here are 3 positive things about being far away from home experiencing college:

1. New Surrounding

Most likely your school is in a surrounding that you are not used to. It can be a big city or a small secluded town or somewhere in-between the two. Remember change is for the better! For the next few years you are experiencing a whole new lifestyle that you hopefully will grow to love. Growing up in the suburbs and going to school in the "country" is the best thing I ever chose to do!

2. New Friends

Going to college you are destined to find your forever friends. You may only live 15 minutes away from each other at home and never met. Or you could make friends with people who live hours away from you. Either way you find your crew of friends. I am not saying that you will find these friends right away. It may take a few weeks or even months, but once you have found them love them and don't let them go!

3. Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Being far from home can be a struggle on relationships with family and friends, but those who love you stick with you. You can text, call, FaceTime, and communicate constantly.Just acting like you are not 350+ miles away from each other. You are probably unable to visit home often, but when it is time for break and you can go home, it's a BIG thing. Nothing compares to those big welcome home hugs that you have been missing!

Nothing can change the feelings you have towards the town you grew up in, but college can become anther place for you to grow new roots in and call home!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
