Two decades have taught me a lot. I've learned to laugh, grow, and appreciate everything that I have. I'm thankful to have learned these lessons so young to be able to make the most of the fun and the memories that my 20s will bring. Here are 21 things I'm glad I learned by 21 and that everyone else should know too!

1. Go hang out with your grandparents.

They won't be around forever.

2. Learn to laugh at yourself.

It's easier to learn from your mistakes that way.

3. Walk away when you aren't appreciated.

Give your effort to people who give it back.

4. Learn to forgive.

But don't let people walk all over you.

5. Find something you love to do and lose yourself in it.

There are very few things in this world that are your very own, don't give them up.

6. If your college major doesn't give you butterflies, you picked the wrong one.

Find the right one.

7. You're never too old to call your dad helplessly when you have a flat tire.

That's what he's here for.

8. If you find a guy that plays with your little brothers and brings your mom flowers, don't let him go.

You may not find someone else like that.

9. Put your phone down when you're hanging out with your siblings.

They grow up way too fast.

10. Caring too much is never a bad thing.

Surround yourself with people who show you that.

11. Don't ever give up the friend that's seen you at your worst and still loves you.

She's in it for the long run.

12. Never allow yourself to say "I wouldn't be here or have this if it weren't for them."

Give yourself the credit you deserve.

13. Your mom has been, and will always be, the best indicator of a person.

If she doesn't like their intentions, don't waste your time on them.

14. An independent woman is the greatest thing you can be.

Period.

15. Learn to be happy alone.

It makes the company of someone that much better.

16. Never underestimate the power of cuddling with your dog in bed while watching "Friends."

The cure for any bad day.

17. You can never say thank you enough.

Ever.

18. Work hard for everything you have.

It's so hard, but it's so worth it.

20. It's okay to give too much.

It's better to have done too much for someone than not enough.

21. Spend your time traveling.

You can always make more money, but memories can't be replaced.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
