21 Situations Every College Student Has Experienced At A Family Holiday Party

Holidays throughout the year are both a blessing and a curse. You get a great meal, some pretty amazing desserts, and sometimes even presents. On one hand, you get to see family members that you don't see much except for on the holidays, but on the other hand, it usually just ends up with a family screaming match about something that isn't going to matter in 20 minutes. Despite holidays being a breeding ground for family fighting and resentment, everyone can agree that holidays are an exciting time. Being a college student, there are certain situations at every family gathering that make you sigh and say, "I can relate."

1. When your mom texts you about the Holiday plans

2. When you're on your way home and everything in your hometown looks way different

3. When it's the day of the holiday and you wake up at noon knowing your family is eating at 2 p.m., but you still have to get ready

4. When you get to the house of the family member that's hosting this year and you realize you're actually early

5. After everyone arrives at the house and they immediately start being dramatic

6. How you react when your favorite family member gets there

7. When you're having a conversation with the family member that has big dreams, but should maybe sort out their priorities first

8. Your face when your grandparents announce to the whole family how great you are and how proud they are of you

9. When someone asks what your grades are like this semester...

10. ...and when someone else asks if you have a significant other or not

11. When you're stealing wine from the kitchen while everyone is distracted, but someone catches you and you have to make a silent pact with them so they don't tell anyone

12. Not knowing what kids are into these days so you just have to improvise the gifts you buy

13. When you say something inappropriate in front of your young cousins and you have to cover for yourself

14. When someone shows up late and claims they got stuck in traffic, but you know what's really up

15. When you realize you have to sit at the kids' table

16. When everyone starts fighting and you're excited because the family drama is too good

17. How you respond to your mom telling you to come out and be social when you're hiding in the bathroom wanting to take a nap

18. When you're parents FINALLY announce that you're going to head for home

19. Two hours later and you're still waiting for your parents to start loading up the car to leave looking at them like

20. Your whole family when you've finally made it home and can go to bed

21. When you ask your friends how their holiday was after going back to school and you have to pretend like you have a completely normal family that had a completely normal holiday

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
