2016 has been a year of firsts and lasts. It has been a year of lessons learned as well. 2016 is the year that I entered adulthood, graduated high school, and went through my whole first semester of college.
The first thing that 2016 has taught me is that as you grow older, you truly find out who your friends are. After graduating high school, I learned that you do not see the majority of the people you graduated with ever again, even those you considered "friends." However, those who truly are your friends will go out of their way to see you and catch up with you once in a while. True friends will make sure that you know they are there for you no matter how far away they are, or how little they see you.
Next, 2016 has taught me that world most definitely is not out to get you. There are more good people than bad. People are a lot better than I ever thought and this year my view on people in general became a lot more optimistic. People are genuinely good and helpful. For every rude or mean person that crosses your path, there are about 100 good people that will cross your path too.
2016 has also taught me that time management is extremely important. If time is not balanced out, the amount of stress caused cannot be put into words. Between school, jobs, and other volunteer activities as well as seeing family and friends, time management is an important skill that has to be developed in life.
Another important lesson I learned this year is that my parents are always right. As much as I do not want them to be right about most things, my parents usually know best. They always know how to read any situation and they always have the best advice.
2016 also showed me that my friends are some of the most important people I've ever met in my life, new and old. Friends are the ones who will support you no matter what you do and they will always be here for you no matter what. I've learned that they will always have your back, and that my friends are some of the most amazing people I have ever met.
2016 taught me not to take the most important things in my life for granted. This year has taught me not to waste time because it goes by so quickly. 2016 has been the year where I have had my firsts, and my lasts, but it has been a year that has taught me the most about life too.
