What Every 2000s Kid Knows To Be True About Middle School

Ah, middle school. Walking the hallways of your adolescence will fill you with nostalgia. The familiar scent of Abercrombie cologne. The locker where you hung photos of your celebrity crush. The classroom where you passed notes. The gym where you attended your very first dance. The memories of the most awkward years of your existence come flooding back. Though we would love to push them very, very far away, let's take a moment to reminisce.

WARNING: the following contains some photos of my middle school years that range from mild to severely horrifying.

1. Your photos were filtered, they were picnicked.

2. Your AIM away message was usually something angsty and deep.

3. Besides posting a "like for a to be honest" status, these were Facebook's purpose:

4. Picking out the perfect tight Abercrombie shirt jean skirt combo was the biggest struggle you knew.

5. …Besides deciding what color bands you wore on your braces. (Unless it was a holiday, then the color scheme was obvious.)

6. Nothing made you feel more scandalous than wearing these bracelets.

7. Other than making your Sims "woohoo."

8. Your top eight on MySpace caused some drama in the friend group.

9. Formspring destroyed the little self confidence you had.

10. You owned unhealthy amounts of Victoria's Secret lip gloss.

11. Side bangs.

12. You refused to return from vacation without beaded braids or a hair wrap.

13. Two words: Juicy jumpsuit.

14. Abercrombie Fierce was the scent of your crush.

15. Starbucks frappuccinos were your everything.

16. You will forever resent Jamie Lynne Spears for causing Zoey 101's cancel.

17. Your sneakers were no ordinary sneakers.

18. Are we all really over Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey's break up?

19. Uggs could be worn in any weather!

20. It hurts your soul to think that today's tweens don't pass notes in class.

.

21. You were the most peaceful person you knew.

22. This sweater/shawl/jacket thing.

23. You frequently asked, "What do you want for breakfast Johnny?"

24. Limited Too was the glorious super store that supplied everything from your training bras to your room decor.

25. Beautiful Soul and Aaron Carter Party are lyrics you will never forget as long as you live.

26. You have participated in a grind line.

27. Your Razor phone is the coolest thing you have owned to date.

28. You constantly found yourself in uncomfortable situations. (Ex: this group squad picture I snuck into.)

29. You were only as trendy as your hair feather.

30. Group pictures were best captured in the mirror of the nearest restroom.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
