Working in information technology (IT) is a great experience that allows you to learn what exactly is going on within all of your devices. I've been doing IT related work for a few years now and compiled a list of 20 truths that every IT worker knows and can relate to. Enjoy!
1. You constantly try to explain to people that Firefox is the best browser, to little avail.
2. You get excited whenever someone says they've dabbled in using Linux.
3. People who don't back up their data or important files give you anxiety.
4. A part of you dies inside when you have to work on a device that its owner spilled water on.
5. You don't understand why consumers get so excited over smartphone software updates, which actually cause more wear and tear on phones that aren't brand new.
6. Trying to explain that just because a computer looks cool and modern, doesn't automatically mean it runs well is a completely lost cause.
7. You wish you had a dollar for every time someone said: "I thought Macs don't get viruses."
8. Your friends immediately ask you to work miracles on things beyond your control, like when a public WiFi network at their work or school is down.
9. You know that computer gamers are the true gamers.
10. You dislike using Bluetooth as nothing beats a wired connection, despite your friends calling you old fashioned.
11. You instantly gain respect for anyone who knows what a solid state drive is.
12. You've tried to see if you could live your entire life only using Linux.
13. People laugh at you whenever you make even a minuscule remark about Linux.
14. 75 percent of your job revolves around waiting for scans, downloads, and updates to finish.
15. You're a proud aficionado of underground electronic music.
16. You've never bothered to use iCloud.
17. You eat a lot of junk food on slow business days.
18. You always feel like you're going to break a cheap consumer laptop when tasked with repairing one.
19. You know Apple products are getting harder and harder to repair.
20. You love what you do and wouldn't trade it for the world.
To all my fellow IT workers out there, hopefully you can relate to most, if not all of these!
