20 Things Only Busy, Overinvolved College Students Understand

Last year as a college freshman I made the mistake of not being involved in anything on campus, and this year I thought I'd make up for it by getting involved in everything. I soon realized that was hard, what was I thinking, and where did my Netflix time go??? Here are a few things I've learned to be too true after over piling my plate up and getting involved in too many things.

1. Not being able to say "no" to anyone

Saying "yes" to everything and realizing you already have something during that time.

2. Leaving for class at 9am and not getting home until 9pm

3. Not having a social life

Seeing all your friends go out every night and you're still busy....

4. But when you do go out you party hard

5. When you hear someone say they're busy but they aren't

I swear nothing will make you more mad than someone telling you "they're too busy" but they only have one thing going on compared to you having 500 million things to do that week

6. Having another closet in your car

Going from a workout class straight to an event with the chancellor basically requires you to have another outfit in your car, make up and dry shampoo (the life saver) all ready for you to change and get ready all in the drivers seat

7. Having a schedule like this:

8. Already having a countdown for Thanksgiving and Christmas break

Dreaming about all the sleep, food and Netflix time I'll have. It's truly a beautiful thing.

9. Wanting a puppy but not having enough time for it

All your friends are getting them now and come on, they're just so fluffy!!! But remembering that you have so much going on, and accepting the fact that you don't have enough time to take care of a puppy. No matter how much you want one.

10. Being non-stop all day

Going from classes, to meetings, to chapter, to study group, and to another meeting all in one night is just an average night for you while having it all back-to-back.

11. Questioning your sanity (about 10 mental breakdowns a day) and future every day.

Always on the verge of going crazy/ wanting to drop out of college to be a trophy wife.

12. Your laptop, phone and their chargers are with you wherever you go.

Your tote essentials include: laptop, phone, chargers, pens, and calendar.

13. Changing your Facebook profile picture and cover photo because a new graphic comes out every week for another event.

14. Hearing that something got cancelled is better than Christmas

Omg free time, what is this? Should I try and get my life together, watch Netflix or sleep??

15. Library=other home

Whenever you aren't at an event or working for something, you're studying at the library. Whenever you find time to study, even if it's just for a short time, you do it. I mean you'll be there all night since it's the only time to do homework. And you can't do it at home because you'll be tempted to jump in bed and go asleep.

16. When your best friends ask you to hangout but you cant :/

"Sorry I wanna go to dinner but I have _____ to do tonight :(" becomes a normal thing

17. Being a multitasker

20. Needing a glass of wine when you get home for the night

From accidentally getting involved in more things to having your DVR record basically everything on TV because you're never home when it comes on. Here's to us for balancing classes, a job (or internship), life and being involved in everything on campus. Cheers.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
