20 Things I Keep Doing During The Quarantine That Proves I'm A Mess

The stay-at-home order many states have adopted are approaching their second or third week. This means many of us have been quarantined at our house for some time, and it might not be going away any time soon. Here are twenty things I need to stop doing for the remainder of this quarantine because they're negatively affecting me. You probably can relate to some if you've been feeling a bit like a mess, too.

1. Eating out of boredom

2. Staying up all night then sleeping most of the day

3. Spending hours on TikTok

4. Binge-watching Netflix, specifically, "Tiger King"

5. Drinking wine every night

6. Online shopping

7. Telling myself I'm going to clean a different part of the houseeach day, then not doing it

8. Playing old games like Minecraft and Webkinz

9. Never changing out of my pajamas

10. Taking multiple naps a day

11. Starting projects then getting bored of them

12. Looking up how to dye and cut my hair on my own

13. Forgetting to put my piercings in and almost letting my holes close up

14. Making cringe TikTok dances

15. Reaching a new "hours spent on phone this week"

16. FaceTiming my friends who are actually being productive

17. Bothering my parents

18. Looking people up from your past on social media

19. The highlight of my day being "Wine with DeWine" (s/o to my Ohio friends)

20. Feeling like this semester of college is "optional" even though it isn't

If you were able to relate to any of these 20 things, you may be a mess, too. Although it's easy to complain about the circumstances due to COVID-19, I am lucky. I am home and healthy, I don't have to put myself at risk every day. Thank you to all the healthcare workers and other essential workers who are working despite COVID-19 still being relevant and dangerous. We appreciate you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
