20 Songs About Being In Your Twenties

I just celebrated my 27th birthday over the weekend, and have so much to be grateful for. My family, friends, good health, and work opportunities. For those who are 20-something years old, these are the years where you will reflect on the decisions you made in life so far. The college that you attended, first job you had, friends that stayed in contacted with you, and plans for the future. You have experienced so much in life, but there is still more to learn. Here are 20 songs that will help you reminisce.

1. "Twenty One" - Khalid

Those who turn 21 might feel overwhelmed with excitement, and hopefully it's not only because you are legally old enough to drink alcohol. This is the age where you will experience many things like college, job interviews, and even heartbreak. Stay confident and make friends with people that will motivate you to succeed. You need positive vibes at this stage in life.

2. "Schoolin' Life" - Beyoncé

The meaning behind this song is that time passes by quickly. Make sure to enjoy life one day at a time. Discover new interests, and do not stop until you achieve your dreams. Remember to work hard, be safe, and live in the moment.

3. "22" - Taylor Swift

The excitement and carefree moments in the lives of people in their early 20s are expressed in this upbeat song. This is the age where you will be thinking about connecting with old friends, meeting new ones, and throwing college parties. You also might want to consider making your resume. Have fun and make smart decisions while learning from past mistakes.

4. "What's My Age Again"? - Blink 182

Getting older is one thing, but growing up is another. This rock song explains the difficulty of having to mature. This means giving up all of the irresponsible or wild behavior from youth. Many teens act childish, but the time has come to grow up.

5. "Lazy Song" - Bruno Mars

This is the song for those who would rather stay home on weekends and watch Netflix or listen to music. When you are in your early 20's, life is not as crazy and there is still time to figure things out. If you are attending college, getting high grades, doing an internship or working a part-time job, you might want to take some time to just relax.

6. "Twenty-Somethings" - Judah & the Lion

This is a song about the confusion and excitement of being in your 20's. It's basically their national anthem. Wanting to enjoy life, but not knowing what your plans are. You will go out somewhere just to drive around your neighborhood, find something to eat or hang out with friends. The days, weeks, months, and years ahead are unpredictable, but you will make the most out of them. Having only a little bit of money will not stop you from having a fun time and living for today.

7. "Working 9-5" - Dolly Parton

When you're in your twenties, if you want to earn and save money to buy a car, go to a restaurant, pay for dates, new clothes and electronics you will have to work a part-time job. This song describes the experience of it. Even though you might work hard, that does not mean you will always be respected or given credit. However, you can always use the free time you have to work on a side hustle until you start making more than your job.

8. "Stronger" - Kelly Clarkson

No matter what negative situation are currently going through, this song will bring you the inspiration to keep going. Twenty-somethings experience months of unemployment, along with breakups, depression or just one really bad day. Remember that help is always available. Keep your chin up, and think positive thoughts when you wake up in the morning.

9. "All Night" - Icona Pop

Going out to clubs and celebrating accomplishments big or small is what people in their twenties love to do. This song reveals those emotions. Put on some dance music, visit a club or try something new. Just be safe and have a great time.

10. "Unwritten" - Natasha Bedingfield

While you're in your twenties, most of the things that happen in your life are under your control. This song represents that. You change your reality and write the novel that you want, and each day is a page that is added to that story. As we age, our knowledge and experience develops further, so continue to learn, grow, thrive, and do not be afraid to take risks.

11. "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

This song works for any circumstance both positive and negative. Each day is a challenge, and depending on your choices, it can turn out good or bad. Remember that changing your mindset will have a strong impact on your life. If you believe that you can overcome anything, it will most likely happen.

12. "Started From The Bottom" - Drake

We all come from humble beginnings. Those who have achieved their dreams needed to work hard, develop a positive mindset, and solved a problem in the world. Nobody is really self-made because someone cannot succeed entirely on their own. This song explains that hustling everyday will pay off, and that you need people in life to reach success.

13. "Fix You" - Coldplay

Becoming an adult is difficult. It is just something you cannot prepare for. However, even though you might feel lost or confused, you always have family, friends, and hope. This song, despite being melodramatic gives you reassurance and faith even during the saddest or darkest moments. There is no reason to be afraid because you will never feel alone.

14. "I Need A Dollar" - Aloe Blacc

Going through a period of unemployment is frustrating. You spend many weeks filling up applications, going to job interviews, and trying to save up money to buy things that you want. Temporary jobs are nice, but full-time jobs are more harder to get. This song reminds you of the struggle with finding employment and earning that well-deserved paycheck.

15. "Shake It Off" - Taylor Swift

When you become an adult you are going to be judged on your appearance, personality, attitude, and even the job you currently have. Like the themes in this song, do not allow people to put you down. Ignore any hateful comments and block out the ones who mock you. When you become successful, the people who doubted you, will talk about how they met you.

16. "Yesterday" - The Beatles

This song reminisces about things you remember from childhood. Throughout your twenties, these memories will be there to look back on. You have to remind yourself that no matter what happened yesterday, today is a new day to start fresh.

17. "You Oughta Know" - Alaina Morissette

In your twenties, you will have one really awful break-up with someone. This song captures those feelings. Heartbreak is something that hurts, but passes with time. When you have family and friends for support, this makes things a little better.

18. "Forever Young" - Alphaville

When you're still at a young age, you do not need to be concerned with taxes, mortgages, and other responsibilities. Attending college, getting a job, paying rent if you live off campus, and having fun on weekends with friends are some of the things most people in their twenties do. Starting a side hustle is a great way to make additional income if you want. It is best to start while you are in your twenties before adulthood gives you more responsibilities and stress, but less hair.

19. "All Star" - Smash Mouth

Your twenties are the years of the life when you accept who you are. If there is a career you want, place you'd like to visit or dream you wish to achieve then do it. Life is complicated, and despite being grateful for what you have, you should change any bad habits that you have. Embrace new challenges, learn to take risks, and have a big party once in a while.

20. "Don't Stop Believin' -Journey

This is a song for those who are thinking about giving up on their dreams. You will find the motivation to keep going no matter what obstacles get in your way. It's impossible to achieve your goals if you do not have any faith in yourself.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
