19 Things You've Probably Said If You're From Floyd County, VA

Being from Floyd County, Va, we have a few sayings...

1. "Do you know where Virginia Tech is?"

If anyone asks where you are from, this is your automatic response.

2. "Wanna go to Mexican?"

Being a Floyd native this is the place to go out to eat on any night of the week.

3. "Over yonder,"

How you will refer to 'something over there.'

4. "GO BUFFS!"

Once a buffalo, always buffalo!

5. "Oh, I live in a one-stoplight town."

When someone says they've never heard of Floyd County, you describe it as a "one stoplight" country town.

6. "Lets go get a medium dollar sweet tea!"

Having Hardee's in Floyd has it perks, especially when you are craving sweet tea.

7. "Want to go watch a sunset?"

Yea, let's go to Polly's Garden or go hike Buffalo Mountain!

13. "It becomes easier to identify people by their cars and trucks rather than their faces."

14. "Oh, we didn't have a middle school."

Floyd County has four elementary schools and one high school. So after students graduate from seventh grade they go to high school in the eigth grade.

15. "I swear everyone knows everything about me."

Living in a small town, you literally can't hide anything from anyone.

16. "You going to Floyd Fest this year?"

If you are from Floyd, you have at least been to Floyd Fest one time.

17. "I am going to get breakfast from Express."

OK, the Express gas station has some of the best biscuits round' town! But if you're feeling ice cream later on that day...Go. To. Express!!

18. "Micky G's or El Charro?"

That is a tough decision... Those two restaurants sound so good!

19. "Floyd is one big family."

When tragedy strikes, we become one and lift each other up. We WILL always be a family here in Floyd County, Virginia.

I love Floyd and I love that we have our own sayings. Well, sayings that only us, Floydians, will understand...

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
