2017 has been a year for the history books. From the inauguration of President Trump to the bombing at Ariana Grande's concert to the Me Too movement, it's safe to say 2017 is a year many of us won't be forgetting for a long time. I've complied a list of seventeen of the most news-worthy stories from 2017, in no particular order.

1. Las Vegas Shooting at the Harvest Festival

On October 1st, 2017 gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire from his hotel room in the Mandalay Bay overlooking a Jason Aldean concert, killing 58 people and injuring over 400. This tragic event brought politics over gun control front and center and also brought together the country music community, and the world, to mourn the loss of the victims.

2. Net Neutrality

In more recent news, net neutrality has been a popular policial firestorm. Net Neutrality gives all Internet content to all providers and restricts them from charging customers extra, speeding up or slowing down internet access, or blocking any content. However, on December 14th, the FCC voted to kill net neutrality by a 3-2 vote.

3. Taylor Swift's 'Reputation'

Taylor Swift returned to the music scene with a bang, releasing 'Reputation' on November 10th. 'Reputation' sold around 1.2 million copies within its first week and top the charts in multiple countries. The album has received an overall positive review and has already had multiple singles hit radio, including Swift's return to country music with "New Year's Day".

4. President Trump's Inauguration

On January, 20th, 2017, Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States. Trump is the oldest person who has ever been President, as well as the wealthiest.

5. The "Me Too" Movement

The Silence Breakers of the "Me Too" movement were so strong, they were named Time Magazine's Person of the Year. The "Me Too" movement was brought to social media by a hashtag created on Twitter by actress Alyssa Milano, and soon flooded social media with celebrities and every day people alike posting the phrase "Me Too" to show that they had been, at one point, sexually assaulted or harassed and bring a voice to the issue.

6. Solar Eclipse

The Total Solar Eclipse took place on Monday, August 21st, 2017. The Solar Eclipse was quite the event, bringing everyone together, outside, to view the historic event.

7. Bombing at Ariana Grande's concert & the benefit concert that followed

Unfortunately, there was more than one attack at a concert that made headlines this year. During an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, New England on May 22nd, 22 concertgoers were killed, many of which children. Following the incident, Grande hosted the One Love Manchester benefit concert on June 4th. Celebrities including Justin Bieber, Coldplay, and Katy Perry took to the stage to honor and raise money for the victims.

8. Women's March

The 2017 Women's March took place on January 21, 2017, to advocate legislation and policies relating to women's rights, healthcare reform, LGBT rights, racial equality, and other related issues. The first planned march was in Washington, however, there were around 408 planned marches in the United States alone.

9. Beyonce's pregnancy announcement

In early February, Beyonce announced her pregnancy with twins via Instagram. Her pregnancy announcement was the most-liked photo on Instagram in 2017.

10. Texas shooting

11. Trump's Travel Ban

In late January, President Trump signed an executive order temporarily barring individuals from seven Muslim-majority countries. This was dubbed as the "Muslim Ban", even though President Trump sent out a statement saying that this was not a Muslim Ban, as the "media was falsely reporting".

12. Hurricanes

The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season was extremely deadly and destructive, with 17 named storms. August and September were particularly destructive months with Hurricanes Franklin, Harvey, Irma, Jose, Maria, Nate, and Ophelia starting in early August.

2017 started out on an interesting note when the "Hollywood" sign was changed to "Hollyweed" by artist Zachary Cole Ferandez .

14. Kendall Jenner's Pepsi ad

Kendall Jenner did not steer clear of controversy in 2017. Jenner was featured in a Pepsi commercial that seemed to mimic Black Lives Matter. The ad was taken down within a day of it originally airing, and Pepsi released a statement saying they were "trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding."

15. Transgender service ban

President Trump signed a directive banning President Obama's 2016 policy that allowed transgender individuals to serve openly in the military. However, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly blocked Trump's ban from going into effect in the near future.

16. Kathy Griffin's controversial photo shoot

Comedian Kathy Griffin has been known to be controversial in the past, however, in 2017 she took her controversy to another level - posing with what appeared to be the severed head of President Donald Trump. Griffin was hit with backlash and many people called her photoshoot tasteless. Originally, Griffin sent out a quick apology, however she later took back her apology and said the entire situation was blown out of proportion.

17. Oscar mix-up

At the end of the 2017 Oscars, "La La Land" was given the award for "Best Picture", the most coveted award of the night. However, it was soon discovered that the award was for " Moonlight" and a mix-up caused huge confusion that filled the Internet for many months to come.
