Brats aren't a staple meal anywhere else.

The Wisconsin Union

After growing up in Wisconsin and then leaving Wisconsin to go to college out of state, I actually learned that Wisconsin is a pretty crazy place.

1. There is such thing as a "Wisconsin accent."

I know, I didn't believe it until after I went back to Wisconsin after being out of state for a while. The Wisconsin accent is alive and well (and very strong).

2. Not every state has a Culver's.

Where do these people get their custard? Oh right, they don't have that either.

3. Brats aren't a staple meal anywhere else.

People literally have no clue what they are.

4. People outside of Wisconsin don't always know the exact breakdown of their nationalities.

Shocking, right? I've asked people what nationality they are and they've actually said, "American." Literal facepalm. How could you not know what percent you are German, Irish, Polish, Belgian or Italian? COME ON. (disclaimer, I don't mean to offend people of other nationalities. It's just that there are a lot of Germans, Irish, Poles, Belgians, and Italians up there in comparison to like anywhere else in the US).

5. People actually eat meat on Fridays during Lent.

Again, that low Irish and Italian population in other geographical regions means that a lot of people aren't Catholic... and they eat meat... during lent... on Fridays. They don't even have Friday Fish Fries. SMH.

6. Going to school the morning after a snow storm is apparently INSANE.

I've had "rain days" in Alabama. That's how seriously other states take their weather conditions. Get on board, Wisconsin. Little Wisconsinites deserve some snow days.

7. Long parkas are an exclusively northern clothing item.

Probably because it doesn't get colder than 50 degrees anywhere but the north.

8. People wear UGGs when it's 70 degrees outside in other states.

They paid $200 for them for some reason, so they need to get their use out of them, even if their feet are sweating.

9. It's abnormal to wear your winter coat inside of a classroom.

I just honestly didn't know that "climate controlled" classrooms existed.

10. Starting summer vacation in the middle of June is really late.

I got out of school in April one year.

11. Starting school in September is also pretty late.

I go back to school in July... JULY PEOPLE.

12. Not everyone can relate to dropping a glass bottle of Oberweis milk on the kitchen floor.

OK, maybe not even all Wisconites relate to this, but if you do, you know that the struggle is real.

13. Some people don't know what Summerfest is.

They pay like $300 to go to weekend festivals when they could go to the World's Largest Music Festival.

14. "Up North" is the entire state of Wisconsin, not just Eagle River.

Where I'm living now, Tennessee is "up north." Put that into perspective. It's wild.

15. Wisconsin is fantastic.

I can say that because I don't live there anymore, but I wish I did.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
