Goats are just better

15 Reasons Why Goats Make Better Pets than Dogs

1. They never have accidents in the house

One of the best things about having goats is the fact that they live outside! This means you don’t have to worry about housebreaking them or coming home to a steaming pile of poo on the floor if you stay out too long.

2. They climb things

The "goats in trees" calendar is legit - goats climb things. My goats even lived in a tree house!

3. They eat poison ivy – and love it

I’m not kidding when I say poison ivy is one of their favorite things to eat. They also enjoy gingersnap cookies...

4. You can milk them

I won’t lie – straight up goat milk is pretty nasty. But you can do so much more with goat milk, like making cheese, yogurt, and soap.

5. You can rent them out

Some landscaping companies actually hire herds of goats to clear areas overrun with weeds.

6. You can enter them in races and potentially win a keg of beer

Have you ever heard of Bockfest? Basically, it is a beer festival centered around a goat race as the main event. The owner of the winning goats gets a keg of beer containing a new brew named after their goat!

7. They run funny

For some reason, goats randomly do little sideways hops when they run, which messes up their gate and slows them down. Sometimes they even wipe out. It’s quite amusing.

8. They don’t bite

They may nibble, but it doesn’t hurt. In facts, they only even have one row of teeth. The roof of their mouth is just a flat pallet.

9. They don’t bark

Goats really don’t make much noise at all. They only really “meh” when they see someone coming with food because they get excited.

10. They don’t kill smaller animals

Every spring, my dogs sit underneath bird nests, catching the baby birds in their mouths as they get pushed out of the nest to fly. They also dig up rabbit nests and toss the babies around in the air. Then they roll in the dead bodies, getting blood and guts all over themselves. It’s disgusting. Goats don’t do that.

11. They don’t slobber

I hate slobber. I hate sticky, wet, hot dog kisses. I hate drooling. Goats don’t do any of that.

12. They are low maintenance

No trips to the vet. No grooming. No poop scooping. No long walks. Nothing. It’s simple, really. Of course, you can still pamper them if you want to.

13. They have rectangular pupils

And that’s just awesome.

14. You don’t have to worry about fur getting on everything

Like I said before, one of the best things about goats is that they live outside. That means they don’t lay on your furniture or roll on your carpet and get fur everywhere.

15. They love people

Goats are super friendly and loving. They don’t get freaked out by crowds. They are relatively gentle and always curious. A goat is a girl's best friend!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
