14 Hidden Gems In Marlborough, Massachusetts

It isn't summer if you haven't spent the day at Wayside Racquet and a visit at the country store on your way home!

I've had this as an article idea for the longest time, and since I am getting ready to move across the country I felt that now is a perfect time! Marlborough, Massachusetts is my hometown, it is located in Central Massachusetts. It's a 45-minute drive from Boston, and 20 minutes from Worcester. Today, I decided to take a trip down memory lane, and share some of my favorite things in Marlborough that only the locals know about!

1. Memorial Beach

I was super lucky to have lived right down the street from the beach. It was at the bottom of the hill from my house, and the hike was always worth it. Memorial beach was hands down my favorite place to chill out at on hot summer days! This beach is located on Hosmer street right on the border of Marlborough and Hudson!

2. Wayside Country Store

One of my favorite parts of summer would be when my mom used to take my sister and me here to pick out all the candy we wanted! I applied for a job here in high school, but sadly I didn't get it. This store is located on Route 20 right on the border of Marlborough and Sudbury!

3. Wayside Racquet Club

This fitness club is located right off of Route 20 just before Target. The most memories I've had in my hometown were made here. I used to go to summer camp here every single year in Elementary School. We would have swimming and tennis lessons in the morning, and games and arts and crafts in the afternoon, but the best part was free swim at the very end of the day! I would still come here on my day off chilling by the pool, and ordering fries at the snack bar. In the winter, I would go swimming in the indoor pool and relax in the hot tub, and sauna! AND if you went to senior prom, you remember the all-nighter the high school held there every year!

4. Ghiloni Park

This park is located off Route 20 next door to the golf course. When I wasn't at Wayside Racquet, I was here! I used to ride my bike all day long on the track, and then hang out at on the playground after my sister was done with soccer practice.

5. Main Street Cafe

Located Downtown. Formerly known as Bumpy's. I remember coming here all the time with my mom and sister, and ordering multiple rounds of french fries!

6. Trombetta's Farm

I loved coming here year-round! In the summer I would play mini-golf with my friends, and get a soft-serve piña-colada ice cream. In the winter, I'd still get an ice cream while we stop by to get the Christmas tree. My family was really close with the owners, and I was in girl scouts with their daughter! You can find Trombetta's right off of Route 20 right by Walgreen's!

7. Jericho Hill

The best part about snow days was sledding down Jericho Hill! This was definitely one of the places in town that I wish I went to more often! This park is located on the border of Marlborough and Southborough!

8. Ward Park Pool

The mushroom pool! I think I only went to this pool when I was 5, but I loved swimming under the mushroom! This pool is located at Ward Park on Route 20 right by Downtown!

9. Stephen Anthony's

This was my family's favorite place for brunch. I think I only came here once for dinner, and from what I remembered they had a good dinner menu too! But I loved coming here for brunch, and we brought a loaf of bread with us to feed the ducks afterwards! This restaurant is located on Route 20 next to the country store!

10. Kennedy's Pub

This charming Irish pub is located on Route 85 across from McDonald's. I used to come here all the time as a kid, but I still love to come here for appetizers and drinks on cold winter nights! This is definitely one of the restaurants you should go to for the atmosphere!

11. Wildwood Steakhouse

I am definitely going out for drinks here when I come home for the Holidays! I have always remembered Wildwood for their cool atmosphere. As a kid, they definitely had a retro 90's vibe, but since they renovated in 2006 the restaurant has become a lot more upscale! Their menu is rather small, but I love to come here for appetizers and drinks!

12. Jake's

I've never actually been here, but the whole town raves about this breakfast joint located Downtown. I will definitely come here before I move!

13. The Grove

Located on Route 85 near Hudson! This is the park where everyone brings their dogs! This place is great for light hikes, and for chilling out in the reservoir!

14. Firefly's Barbeque

Almost everyone I knew worked here! Everyone had their sweet sixteen here. If you're friends with me on facebook, you'll probably find photos of me doing the cha cha slide in their big function room in my black dress and cheetah heels.

... I wasn't kidding.

Now that I look back at all of these amazing places, I might actually miss my hometown for the warm, sunny, and classy San Diego! I need to go back to all of these places before I hop on the plane!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
