On March 10, a new trailer for "Captain America: Civil War" was released. Social media became a frenzy, with Chris Evans even tweeting "That new trailer just broke my brain. #CaptainAmericaCivilWar." And it's true, this trailer contains a lot of clues about the tone and direction of the movie. While the last trailer focused on Steve Rogers and the rebuilding of his relationship with Bucky Barnes, which will no doubt be a large part of the film, this trailer focuses on the deterioration of his friendship/allegiance with Tony Stark and how it affects other Marvel characters. It's darker, grander, more intense, and feels so... final. Both sides seem flawed, desperate, and destructive; you know not everyone can make it out of this movie alive and well. Which is why, when watching the trailer, most Marvel fans probably felt like this:
1. When you see there is a new trailer.
An early review called this film an "emotional horror movie," so Marvel fans knew this new trailer was going to hurt.
2. Seeing Bucky being woken up as the Winter Soldier.
Please, please, please let this be a Red Room flashback. Also, this reminds people that while the cast of this movie is huge, it is a Captain America film, and at its core will be his relationship with Bucky.
3. The Avengers being reminded by Thaddeus Ross of all the destruction they've caused.
They are doing the best they can. Plus, if they hadn't shown up and caused that destruction, a lot more people would be dead.
4. BLACK PANTHER. CHASING BUCKY.
T'challa/Black Panther hasn't even had any lines yet, and he's already everyone's new favorite.
5. When Bucky almost shoots Tony in the face.
Tony's reaction works for our reaction.
6. When Rhodey is shot down.
Obviously, he's not really dead... right? Please tell me I'm right. Marvel is advertising it way too much for it to be true. They're just trying to trick us... I hope.
7. When Tony backhands Steve.
CAN'T WE JUST ALL GET ALONG?!?!
8. When Ant-Man flies off Hawkeye's arrow.
That is the nerdiest, coolest, most comic book thing I have ever seen.
9. Seeing Crossbones for the first time.
Tony Stark is not a villain, Crossbones is. You should be very scared of him.
10. When Steve says "I can do this all day."
No, you need to sit down and rest. Please. You look so tried.
11. When Team Cap and Team Iron Man start dramatically running toward each other to fight.
So many super heroes. So much fangirling. But also there has to be a better way to settle this. Sit down and stop being so dramatic.
12. When Spider-man says "Hey, everyone."
IT'S FINALLY HAPPENED. SPIDER-MAN IN A MOVIE WITH OTHER MARVEL CHARACTERS. Life is good.
13. After the trailer is over.
So many conflicting emotions. May 6 can't come soon enough, but also it needs to stay very far away.
