Winter break: a month-long time period that leaves students in shock because they don't know what to do with all of the free time resulting from no longer living in the library. To fill in for all of the time normally spent studying, check out these ideas!

1. Send out holiday cards

It is nice to receive a handwritten card from those you haven't heard from in a while. Don't let it become a dead tradition.

2. Bake holiday treats

3. Binge watch Netflix to make up for all that you missed during the semester

4. While catching up on favorites, spend some time watching holiday classics

5. Look and apply for scholarships

Your bank account will appreciate it.

6. Enjoy the chance to sleep in

Because soon you'll be waking up for those 8 ams again.

7. Drive around and look at Christmas lights

This is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season

8. Participate in festive activities like ice skating

9. Build a gingerbread house

10. See a local production of the Nutcracker

11. Volunteer at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen

12. Donate to Toys for Tots or Operation Christmas Child

Make someone else's holiday a little bit brighter.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
