Demi Lovato is one of the most down to earth celebrities out there. She is extremely honest and open with her fans on a daily basis but even more so in her new documentary. Throughout the hour-long YouTube video, we get a huge glimpse of Demi's personal life as well as her struggles. Here are eleven things that we learned while watching it.

1. Demi is a perfectionist

Throughout the documentary, we are shown clips of Demi working hard in the studio. The producer keeps telling her that what she sang was perfect but Demi insists on doing it over. With a voice like that who can blame her?

2. She has an amazing sense of humor

Okay, we kind of already knew this but, it was nice to hear Demi's friends rave about how witty and funny she is. She even makes fun of herself once in awhile. Her assistant Kelsey explained it as "having no filter".

3. Her birth father is the ultimate reason she started drinking and abusing drugs

Her family and friends opened up about Demi's relationship with her father. Marissa, Demi's childhood friend said that he would tell them he had cancer when he didn't and told them he was dying the next day when he wasn't. Her father chose drugs and drinking over Demi's family which made Demi curious to try it.

4. The Jonas Brothers' father led to Demi punching her backup dancer in 2010

Demi was on a downward spiral in 2010 while on tour with the Jonas Brothers. She was doing cocaine daily and even somehow snuck it on planes. One of her backup dancers "Shorty" saw her doing drugs and decided to tell Paul Kevin Sr. When Demi's management and family found out she was obviously in a lot of trouble. At the time, Demi knew how to manipulate anyone into doing what she wanted. She admitted that she asked Paul Kevin Sr. who told him because she wanted to "thank them". He saw no harm in it and told her. Demi then got on a plane with the backup dancer, ran up to her and punched her in the face. Then she went to the back of the plane and fell asleep.

5. She was admitted into rehab but kept using even after she was released

After punching her backup dancer, Demi went into rehab. She admits that she was told she had bipolar disorder and "it felt right". However, when Demi left rehab and started advocating for people with addiction as a sober individual she was actually lying. It turns out that Demi was actually hungover and on drugs while performing on American Idol. She was living a double life.

6. Her manager Phil McIntyre saved her life

Phil admitted that he was annoyed that Demi was pretending to be sober when she wasn't. He saw her going back downhill and wanted to drop her from his agency because she wasn't listening to him. He then decided to not give up on her and found Mike Bayer, a rehab coach to help. Together Mike and Phil sat Demi down with doctors, her family and friends to have an intervention. They told her that she needed to change or they would all leave. She then destroyed her phone and asked what else she could do. Phil made her put the phone in a glass of water and she finally committed to being sober.

7. She recently relapsed on her eating disorder

Demi explained that her eating disorder tends to haunt her the most when she feels lonely. When she broke up with her longtime boyfriend Wilmer, she relapsed. Phil was shocked to hear it but was ultimately relieved that she was honest with him.

8. She and Wilmer broke up because she was never alone

Demi met Wilmer while they were filming a commercial at his house back in 2009. He was her safe haven throughout her worst years. They mutually decided that they were better off as friends and ended their relationship last year. According to Demi, she will always love Wilmer but she needed to break up with him because she was never independent. She was always dating and now that she owns her own house, she decided it was time.

9. She is on a dating app with both men and women

Like everything else in her life, Demi is very open and honest about her sexuality. When she broke up with Wilmer, she decided to go on various dating apps. She explains her views as "wanting a human connection it doesn't matter if it's a girl or a boy".

10. Her coach Mike Bayer introduced her to Jui Jitsu

When Mike first met Demi he said she was "nasty" and had "huge anger problems". He then introduced her to this gym he knew of and hoped she would fall in love with Jui Jitsu. Turns out that he was correct and Demi is now on her way of receiving a black belt.

11. She still struggles but is more confident than ever

Demi obviously still has struggled to this day but she says that she feels more "confident and sexy than ever". She is now a couple years sober and shows anyone dealing with addiction or bipolar disorders, that it really can get better.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
