If you have curly hair chances are you know it’s not always as fabulous as some people make it out to be. There’s a certain type of love-hate relationship that goes along with it. The challenges you face with your hair are quite different from any other type of challenge.

You break a ridiculous number of hairbows

The number of hair bows you go through can be astounding. They’re always snapping and breaking. Even if you’re lucky enough to find a good one, they eventually lose their stretch and become useless.

And your fair share of combs, too

Trying to drag a comb through your hair can be a scary experience, especially if it’s not an industrial strength one. It doesn’t take long for at least one of the teeth of the comb break off in your hair.

Brushing your hair is a no go

Just trust me on this one. Unless, of course, you want your hair to look like a fluffy pyramid.

“Why don’t you straighten it more often?”

To put it simply, I don’t have the time or patience that would take. I’m not about to give my arms a three-hour work out just so my hair can be mostly straight.

It’s never not tangled

You may have just spent an hour trying to get those knots out, but five seconds later they’re back. Your curls have a mind of their own.

People always want to touch it

No matter where you go, someone always wants to play with it. It’s okay if they’re one of your close friends. But it’s a bit weird when that stranger has their hands in your hair. Not to mention the more you touch it, the frizzier it gets. There’s also no telling if they’re hand will get stuck.

Humidity is not your friend

It’s very likely you’ll end up looking like Hagrid, the Lion King, or something in between.

Sometimes you have to curl your hair to make it more presentable

To some, it might not make sense. But if your curls look like Medusa in a lightning storm, then maybe it’s time for some retouching.

Things can and will get lost and/ or stuck in your mane

This is why you have to buy so many bobby pins. They get sucked into your hair and might show up later that night in the shower… or maybe even days later. Not to mention anything else that happens to get sucked in.

Care products drain your bank account

Curl cream. Humidity shield. Anti-frizz. Heat protectant. Detanglers. You name it and you’ve tried it. Anything to help with the mop on your head.

“Is your hair naturally curly?”

Believe it or not, people will ask this question when your hair is dripping wet. Or standing two feet out from your head. Believe it or not, these messy, glorious curls are all natural.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
