We will all lose someone we love at some point in our life. Saying goodbye and knowing you will never see them again on this earth hurts in so many ways. The grieving process drains you emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and even physically. It is in those times, the greatest comfort comes from family and friends. But the word of God is also a source of comfort, especially in bringing some hope into the situation.
Often times I find that the word of God brings exactly the encouragement that I need to get through the day or a tough time. For the love of God transcends all understanding and gives hope where hope was lost.
For anyone grieving, I pray that the following verses may bring comfort to you as they have comforted me.
1. Psalm 73:23, 26
23 Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold me by my right hand. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
2. Psalm 119:49-50
49 Remember the word to Your servant, In which you have made me hope. 50 This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
3. Psalm 55:22
22 Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
4. John 10:14-15
14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.
5. Matthew 5:4
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
6. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
7. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
8. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
9. Matthew 11:28
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
