10 Things To Do When You Go Home For Fall Break

Fall break is finally here. Don't let it go to waste.

I love school, but don't get me wrong, I'm so thankful for a short break. After finishing up midterms, my brain definitely needs a break.

Going into fall break, I really thought it was going to still feel like summer outside. Thank goodness it has cooled off a little bit. I was really tired of walking to class and being wet from sweat (ew. gross.) by the time I got there, even at 10 A.M.

So bring on pumpkin spice and everything nice. It's time for hoodies. YAY! Make sure you take some back to campus with you after you do these 10 amazing things during fall break.

1. Spend time with your parents and siblings!

They miss you! Don't forget that. Yes, even your little brothers miss you although they might not show it.

2. Go see your grandparents!

Go sit and talk to your grandparents. They want to hear about how school is going, friend drama, and everything else that's happening in your life. They are proud of you, and they want to make sure you're doing okay.

3. GET SOME GOOD REST!

You just finished midterms. Get some sleep. You know you've been staying up studying so rejuvenate and be ready for the second half of the semester when break is over.

4. Hang out with your friends.

They probably miss you just as much as you miss them. Go talk to them. Hug them. That's much better than the hour long facetime calls you've been having.

5. It's spooky season so go see a scary movie.

It's October! Get a group together, and go see a scary movie. If you don't want to go to the movies, have a scary movie night at home with your family and friends.

6. Carve or paint a pumpkin.

Make a run to the nearest pumpkin patch and pick out the most BOOtiful pumpkin.

7. Cozy up and read a good book.

A good read is always an option. You could go for a thriller or mystery. Or a good ole love story.

A few suggestions: The House on Mango Street, The Outsiders, Dear Evan Hansen, The Fault in Our Stars, and To All the Boys I've Loved Before. Those are just a few of my favs.

8. On Saturday, watch college football.

Of course, every Saturday of football season is for college football!!!

9. Eat at your favorite hometown restaurant.

You know you've missed that one little restaurant back home. Go! Get your favorite thing. Yummy.

10. Get ahead (or caught up) on school work.

If you're anything like me, you aren't behind, but you could definitely be more ahead than you are. If you run out of things to do, there is always school work.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
