11 Signs You Go To School In A College Town

There is nothing more sweet than living in a small college town. It is a college experience unlike no other and those that get to experience it have a greater love for their school. And not to quote Farmer's Only, but city folk just don't get it. These are tell tale signs you are in a small college town.

1. Anybody will give you directions, and with a smile

2. Game day, the entire town shuts down

If you’ve never experienced game day in your college town, it’s a whole new level. The town is covered in college logos, tail gaiting and college pride. And if you’re lucky enough to go to an SEC school, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

4. There is always something going on

There is always something happening, and I guarantee somebody will go with you. Thankfully most of us have the same priorities as far as expenses and sleep are concerned, so it is probably free and doesn’t start until noon on Saturday anyways.

5. Need food at 2am? The whole town does too- because they are also in college

Waffle House? IHOP? Pizza? Don’t worry, it’s open and it’s cheap. God bless.

6. You eat the best local food

Being a local in a college town, you know the chains, but you frequent the home style places. They are the best and usually don't break the bank.

7. You freak out when you’re home and see somebody else wearing gear from your college

Especially in airports, I freak out when I see anybody wearing Auburn gear. It might throw them a little off guard when you scream "War Eagle!!", but I promise you it's a really special connection to your school's family you can't find anywhere else.

8. You own a lot of college gear

Your T-Shirt drawer is overfilling with college shirts, but you don't care and you keep buying them. So what? You're proud of your school and that's all anybody wears to classes anyways.

9. Your professors went to college at your university

A lot of my professors are proud alumni who love everything about the school. They loved it enough to stay and teach. But don't let that fool you into thinking their classes are easier, I promise you they are not.

10. Everybody hates you on social media, because you always rave about your school

Who cares what they think? Your college is pretty top notch and you're proud of it! You should be. Embrace your school. Don't let the haters stop you from doing your thang.

11. And when you leave, the small town never leaves you

We kept the college bumper sticker on our car, and even though most people don’t bat an eye, those few who notice will stop you and make you remember why you loved your small college town so much.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
