10 Signs Your Dog Is Really Your Child

No need to be ashamed that you baby the heck out of your pup.

10 Signs Your Dog Is Really Your Child
Erica Carbajal

In our family, my little Jasper is the King of the house. If you're like me, you baby the heck out of your pup (even if they're not an actual puppy anymore). He's basically my child and I'm not afraid to admit it; they're not "just animals," they're huge parts of our lives and it's totally okay to be labeled a "dog-mom." If you do these 10 things...it's okay to admit your dog is more like a human child than your pet:

1. Your friends make fun of how much you are obsessed.

You're always talking about your dog and the latest "adorable" thing they did. Your friends have to remind you that your dog isn't a human. Don't worry though because they're probably just jealous you don't give them that much attention (and they're still your baby).

2. You throw your baby a birthday party ever year.

Okay...one of my favorite days of the year. Whether it's at a dog-friendly restaurant, or just at home with homemade treats, you always find a way to make your pup's birthday celebration special. If you're a true dog mom you have a birthday hat for them too.

3. Your social media and phone photo albums are full of doggo pics.

You have more pictures of your dog than you do of anything else...that's saying a lot today considering people's love for selfies and narcissism.

One of the many snapchat stories he's made.

4. You make your family members put your dog on the camera so you can FaceTime with them.

If you're away from home, on a trip, or in college you ask to see your dog on FaceTime immediately and proceed to get their attention by using your special voice/lingo.

As you can see, I have to keep up with his busy life.

5. You take them over to their "friends" house to have a play date

Dogs need friends too! There's nothing cuter than seeing your dog "hang out" with his "friends." Plus, it tires them out just like a real kid.

Jasper and his "cousin" Rocco.

6. You talk about having them in your wedding.

You tell people that your dog will walk down the aisle at your future wedding and assign someone to be in charge of them. In my case, my Jasper will be the "flower boy."

7. You buy them toys every time your at the store.

If you're at the pet store just to stock up on food, you always come home with a new gadget for your child.

8. You vent to them.

When you have a bad day, they cheer you up immediately because they pretend like they're listening, and even though it's probably just an act for treats and cuddles, it still brightens up your day.

(he's listening I swear)

9. You get anxiety whenever you have to leave them.

You get worried whenever someone has to "babysit" your baby and probably leave them a detailed list. You can't enjoy a get-away without worrying about what your pup is up too. If you're really extra, you have a special dog webcam so you can keep an eye from afar.

How could you not hate leaving that face?

10. You're over protective

When people play with your dog and you think they're being too rough...you have no problem telling them. You also make sure that every guest who enters your house greets your king/queen!

Don't be ashamed if all of these apply to you; they deserve to be shown off! This article is dedicated to my little world: Jasper. <3

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
