With almost 200 countries in the world, why not visit one that a lot of tourists don’t visit?
1. Tanzania
With Mount Kilimanjaro providing amazing safaris and the beautiful island of Zanzibar providing amazing sailing experiences, it is surprising that this East African country does not see as many tourists as other countries on the continent.
2. Georgia
The country, not the state! Some people don’t even know there is a country with the same name as one of our states. Located in the Caucasus, Georgia is full of beautiful cathedrals, fortresses and mountain views.
3. Haiti
After being devastated by an earthquake, Haiti is often not visited by tourists, excluding people who travel to the island to help with the relief effort. However, tourism in Haiti, especially on its northern coast, is a great way to help boost the economy. I went to Haiti on a cruise and it was easily one of my favorite places.4. Russia
Russia is often skipped over in favor of more tourist-friendly countries in both Europe and Asia. However, there is much to see in the world’s biggest country, including colorful buildings and vast landscapes that can be seen through taking a trip on the world’s longest railroad, the Trans-Siberian Railway.
5. Armenia
Similar to Georgia, Armenia is a country in the Caucasus that provides amazing sightseeing opportunities, like monasteries and ancient ruins, wine tasting and events for thrill-seekers, such as skiing and hiking.
6. Bhutan
Bhutan is often passed over in favor of Tibet in China or Nepal for adventure seekers climbing Mount Everest. However, Bhutan offers amazing architecture, scenery and unique sports.
7. Palau
Palau is a Pacific island close to the Philippines and Indonesia. Palau offers pristine beaches, which can be seen in "Survivor," since they filmed multiple seasons there. It also includes dolphin sightings and a lake where you can swim with thousands of non-stinging jellyfish.
8. Vietnam
After the Vietnam War left a sour taste in many peoples’ mouths, Vietnam is often pushed to the side in favor of Thailand, China and Indonesia by American tourists. However, the Vietnamese countryside in the center of the nation contains beautiful landscapes and the unique culture of rural Vietnam.
9. Kiribati
A group of islands in the Pacific many people have not heard of, Kiribati offers tourists snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing and almost all other water sports you can think of. The islands are hard to get to, but the clear blue lagoon that surrounds them is worth the hassle.
10. Dominica
A Caribbean island which isn’t too often frequented by cruise ships, Dominica is an island more for people who appreciate scenery and culture than just lying out on a beach tanning. The tree-covered island is not exactly set up for tourists, but the jungle is perfect for animal and bird lovers who are enthused by seeing new species.
