There are many new cinematic adventures to look forward to in the new year.

All great things must come to an end. The past decade (2010-2019) saw many audiences introduced to characters both new and old through multiple franchises. Franchise films are continuing to gain steam heading into the next decade, but there are those original films that must also be given attention.

As some established brands end, and others crash and burn, new characters ad worlds are introduced with the chance to become even bigger household names than the franchises of old. With talented overseers at the helm, there is no end to the creative visions that will be told in the new year and beyond.

5. "The Many Saints of Newark"

The violent and immoral world that is "The Sopranos" returns. For hardcore fans on the fence about a continuation, the David Chase-written "The Many Saints of Newark" will instead be winding the clocks back for a prequel story set in 1960s New Jersey during the famous 1967 Newark riots.

While the aforementioned series focused on the life of mobster Tony Soprano, "The Many Saints of Newark" will instead star legendary mob figure Dickie Moltisanti (father of one of the TV series's main players, Christopher) played by Alessandro Nivola while Junior, Johnny Boy, Livia, Feech La Manna, and Richie Aprile, among many other iconic characters from the show, are expected to make appearances albeit younger and in their prime.

However, fans will get their fair helping of the most famous Soprano. Up and coming actor Michael Gandolfini ("The Deuce", "Ocean's 8") will be taking over the role of Tony from his late father, James. "Many Saints" will help fill in the gaps of Sopranos lore that was teased and mentioned throughout the series but yet to be completely explored.

4. "Last Night in Soho"

With "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World", "The World's End", and most recently "Baby Driver", Edgar Wright has directed some of the most influential films of the past decade. Wright's next film, "Last Night in Soho," will act as the director's love letter to 1960's British horror films. Rather than another crime thriller, Wright seems to be hearkening back to his early horror roots with "Last Night in Soho".

There is yet to be a trailer released for the film, and plot details are very much still under wraps, which only heightens the mystery surrounding the movie even more. But do not expect the film to be completely bitter, as Wright tends to have a balance of drama and humor. "Baby Driver" was a serious action thriller but also had its fair share of humor and levity interspersed between the action and darkness.

With a stellar cast that includes the likes of Thomasin McKenzie, Anya Taylor Joy, Matt Smith, Diana Rigg, and Terrence Stamp, it'd be a shame not to have another great Edgar Wright film around all that talent.

3. "Black Widow"

Following the heroic sacrifice to save the universe in the 2019 blockbuster "Avengers Endgame", "Black Widow" fittingly is the first chapter of the new phase of the MCU following the decade-spanning "Infinity Saga" storyline. Fans have anxiously waited for a standalone Black Widow adventure starring Scarlett Johansson since the character's introduction in "Iron Man 2".

After nearly a decade-long hiatus, the time has come. Phase 4 opener "Black Widow" finds the titular character in her old stomping grounds of Russia without the backup of her more familiar Avenger associates. However, Natasha will be joined by fellow Black Widows Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Melina (Rachel Weisz), a Russian derivative of Captain America Red Guardian (David Harbour), and classic Marvel Comics villain Taskmaster (actor yet to be confirmed).

"Black Widow" looks to be more of a grounded Jason Bourne spy thriller than the traditional big-budget Marvel movie. Expect "Black Widow" to act like a swan song of sorts for Johansson as the Russian spy, but also do not rule out the film to start planting the seeds for the next grand Marvel storyline.

2. "Ghostbusters: Afterlife"

Who ya gonna call to revive another beloved 80s franchise? Your son, of course.

In this case, it's Jason Reitman, son of original "Ghostbusters" director Ivan, who is taking the once-beloved franchise back to basics. Jason (who has directed "Juno", "Tully", and "Thank You For Smoking") himself has enough films under his belt to warrant more than enough respect.

Rather than another reboot, "Ghostbusters Afterlife" will act as a followup to the events of the 1989 sequel. The new adventure is ditching the familiar New York setting in favor of a more horror-based, coming-of-age story in the fields of Oklahoma. Carrie Coon ("Gone Girl"), Mckenna Grace ("Captain Marvel"), and "Stranger Things" Finn Wolfhard will be starring as the family coming into contact with the ghosts, while original Ghostbusters Venkman (Bill Murray), Stanz (Dan Aykroyd), and Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson) will be returning, with the late Harold Ramis having a large presence in the film as well.

Different than what casual audiences have come to see the franchise? Yes, but different is what the "Ghostbusters" series desperately needs to stand out in today's crowd.

1.  "The Eternals"

Every great mythology has to start somewhere. Marvel's "The Eternals" will explore the secret origins of the MCU and its cosmic roots thousands of years in the past. A time before superheroes and alien invasions yet forces remaining at play, laying the groundwork for things to come.

The Eternals are a race of cosmic immortals created by the giant space gods, the Celestials ("Guardians of the Galaxy" planet Knowhere is the severed head of a Celestial) to help lead the beginnings of humanity against a rival race of beings the Deviants.

As with most of their projects, Marvel is not holding back when it comes to the cast for this film. Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Gemma Chan, Kit Harrington, Lia Mchugh, and many other great talents will be bringing the brainchild of comic creator Jack Kirby to life on the big screen.

11 years into the franchise, it's great to see Marvel still manages to attract many talented A-list actors and actresses into a single project. "The Eternals" will be a film Marvel and movie fans, in general, will not want to miss.

The next decade is looking mighty full of potential. Many of the films are either completely untested with audiences or has not had a new entry in years. Yet each and every one have the potential to be major franchises. Different and unique in their storytelling, casting, themes, and overall vision.

The beginning of the new decade for film is looking strong.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
