10 Movies For Any Kind Of Spooky Mood

In This Article:

Halloween movies are the absolute best part of October, and while none of us have nearly enough time to watch all the Halloween films ever made, here are some of my favorites.

Whether you're feeling spooky, creepy, comedy, or childhood fantasy, here's a list tailored to any kind of Halloween fan.

For the One Who Loves A Good Scare: "Halloween"

IMDb

"Halloween" is my absolute all-time favorite horror movie, and while I may be a little biased, I HAVE TO recommend it as my #1 Halloween movie. Regardless of the number of times I re-watch this film, it still scares me senseless. Micheal Myers is one of those villains who just stick to you, whether that's because he never dies, or because

For The Classic Horror Fanatic: "Psycho"

IMDb

If supernatural stuff isn't your mojo, maybe a cult classic will satisfy your craving for true horror. Psycho was based on one of America's most disturbed serial killers and grave robbers, Ed Gein. Gein would decorate his home with the skins and bones of his victims. The whole case was so disturbing that the whole movie release had to be put on hold until the case was closed. Gein was also the inspiration for Leatherface from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and Buffalo Bill from "Silence of the Lambs." What a legacy.

For Your Inner Witch: "Hocus Pocus"

IMDb

I mean is it even a Halloween movie list without this movie? Set in Salem, Massachusetts, a coven of three evil witches are awoken with the intent of becoming immortal and setting their sights on wrecking the world. With an amazing lead like Bette Midler and her cover of "I Put A Spell On You," it's the most unforgettable movie on this list.

For your Inner Childhood: "Halloweentown"

IMDb

The ultimate childhood movie! I can't even describe how amazing this movie is. Although the movie set and style are a little old fashioned, the series is full of heartwarming moments and the story is so good, it's a great movie for all ages.

For The Romantic Couple: "Practical Magic"

IMDb

Two witch sisters live with a curse that any man who falls in love with a woman in their family, they would die. Of course, this is a perfect recipe for a beautiful romance movie starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. Whether you watch this your partner or with yourself, it's honestly a really wonderful film full of girl power and magic.

For You and Your Bestie: "Twitches"

IMDb

Get you and your soulmate, some popcorn and get under some blankets while you watch this Disney classic. It's still been forever since I've seen this movie, yet it's still such a women power classic. Two identical girls find out that they're actually witch princesses from another Kingdom. It's up to their combined powers to save their home from the forces of darkness.

For The Kids: "Casper the Friendly Ghost"

IMDb

The 1979 original was one of my favorites growing up. Watching it recently I realized it's still absolutely beautiful and enchanting as it was when I was little. If you've been living under a rock, the movie is about a girl named Kat and her dad who moves into an old haunted house inhabited by none other than Casper the friendly ghost and his three unfriendly ghost uncles. The movie is stupid cute and is perfect for any younger audiences or audiences with a younger mindset (enter my five-year-old brain).

For the Monster Lover: "Beetlejuice"

IMDb

Of course, I had to add "Beetlejuice" to this list. While "Beetlejuice" isn't my favorite movie on this list, it still has all the charms of a Tim Burton film. Not to mention some parts of the movie were actually scarier than expected, (what the heck was that snake thing?). Just make sure you don't say his name thrice!

For the Whole Family: "The Addams Family"

IMDb

They're creepy and they're cookey, mysterious and spooky, they're all together ookey, the ADDAMS FAMILY! Whether you watch the first or second one doesn't really matter. You'll still get all the creepy family vibes from this family favorite. It's also fun to watch a family that's much weirder than yours.

The Forgotten Classic: "The Little Vampire"

IMDb

I'm not gonna lie, I thought this movie was a fever dream I had from eating way too much candy. Alas, it was a real film and one I wish I hadn't forgotten. This movie is super cute and so well produced I wish it was remembered more. In case you haven't seen it, or you're looking to add another great Halloween film to your list, "The Little Vampire" is a hidden gem for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
