10 Lies College Students Tell Themselves During the First Week of Classes

Summer is over and the endless stresses of school have begun. Classes start and you find that you're giving yourself that same pep talk that you gave yourself last year. It's like clockwork. As soon as the semester starts, you immediately tell yourself that you're going to boost your GPA, eat healthier and study more. But then, after the first week of classes, you realize that you're kidding yourself and so you begin to question how much of a joke your life is. Here's a few things all college students tell themselves right before the semester begins:

1. I'm actually going to show up to every class this semester.

Just kidding, 8 a.m. is just too early.

2. I'm going to make smarter choices in the dining hall so I can eat healthier.

Pass the buff chick dip, am I right?

3. Cardio. I need more cardio in my life. If you need me, I'll be in the gym.

.....or eating pizza or sushi or a burrito or all three....

4. Maybe if I actually read my textbooks this semester I'll do better.

What's a book again?

5. Sleep. I need more of it. I mean, I'm not going to do well without it.

*Proceeds to have a work-filled all-nighter....and by work I mean binge watching "The Office" on Netflix*

6. Maybe I could meet some new people this semester -- make new friends, maybe join a new club.

Or avoid eye contact/most social interactions on campus so you don't have to talk to people.

7. Go out less, study more.

Dancing to Nicki Minaj with your besties is just more fun than microeconomics.

8. I'm definitely going to make better choices.

Ooo, Tinder seems fun!

9. Maybe if I don't use my social media as much, I'll get more done.

"I need a good caption for this Insta!"

10. I'm so excited for the semester!

(By the end of the week, you feel as bad as Amanda Bynes looks seven years later)

But soon enough, you'll get yourself together, stop stressing and make the semester the best it can be. Whether or not you choose the salad or a burrito or whether or not you choose to watch Netflix instead of that extra hour of studying, don't forget to work hard AND have fun. It's all about balance. It might seem impossible at first, but before you know it, college will be over and you'll be wishing it never ended.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
