Whether we realize it or not, dads are way more than just dads. Most of them are working all the time, simultaneously doing 10 different jobs that we almost always forget about. Dads do a lot more than we take full note of, and it's time to pay attention to that.

1. Employees

Every dad has some sort of boring job they need to do in order to financially support himself and the family. No matter how horrible that job might be, my dad knows that the money he makes to support us is only a small portion of life, and it's really only essential for the bills. Everything else in our family runs on love.

2. Sons

All dads come from somewhere. As cool as it might be to think that dads are alien descendants from some weird planet... they are really just sons to our grandparents. My dad is the youngest of three kids to my grandparents. Because he was so insane, they decided to stop there. Nonetheless, they love him all the same and are proud of who he has become

3. Brothers

The job of being a brother is a lot to uphold, but my dad has never failed. He has always been there to stick up for his other two siblings and take a hit, regardless of how many bruises they might have caused him... all in good fun, love, and reckless games of football.

4. Uncles

Even if someone's dad is a single child, they might have a childhood best friend that they consider a brother, that children might call "uncle". Regardless, my dad is an uncle to my cousins, and a favorite uncle at that. On holidays and family trips it's not uncommon to hear them shouting his name and see them giving him giant hugs.

5. Husbands

Currently my dad is a husband to my stepmother and ex husband to my mom. In both marriages he has taught me many things. He taught me that it's okay to leave a relationship and continue to be friends, and that it's okay to move on after that and love someone else even more. These two lessons are the best ones I have been taught.

6. Artists

My dad is an actual artist. He paints, draws, and creates masterpieces for a hobby and has worked commissions to make money from his talent. He even has a page on Facebook for some of this art: http://facebook.com/briancoatespaintings
But whether a dad tries to make a living off of art work or not, dads are willing to help with art projects or color pictures with kids. Whether that turns out to be absolutely awesome or a total failure, more dad's deserve the title of artist.

7. Geniuses

Dads can fix anything with duct tape. But to be serious, dads can fix a lot of things. They help out with electrical workings around the house, a clogged drain, a toy being put together, and even math homework. My dad even figured out snapchat filters when they first started! This diversity of knowledge leads me to believe that dads are just pure geniuses.

8. Darth Vaders

So everyone knows that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's evil father from the Star Wars movies (if you didn't know, spoiler alert!). When my dad used to ground me for being an ignorant teenager and getting in trouble, I hated it. Most of these times, I'd refer to him as Darth Vader. I now realize that these groundings were for my own good, and help mold me into the person I am today.

9. Role Models

If there's one thing that all dads are, it's a role model of some sort. Whether it's a role model of who to be, who or not to be, a dad is a huge influence on a child. Luckily, my dad has been a positive role model. He taught me how to be strong, follow my dreams, be a hard worker, and love with all my heart. He has also taught me the importance of mental health, taking breaks, and knowing when I just need a nap.

10. Best Friends

Only the luckiest of people get to have a parent as their best friend. Never once has my dad given up on me or put me down. He's always been there for me with the stupidest and funniest dad jokes when I needed them, and a shoulder to cry on when those jokes didn't work. He's been there to walk on the street side of the sidewalk and always protect me from danger. He has been there to hug me so tight that my life couldn't possibly fall into pieces because he was holding all those pieces together. Through it all, he's been there as an employee, son, brother, uncle, husband, artist, genius, Darth Vader, role model, and best friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
