10 Things I Will Miss About College
Carli Combs

Seniors in college all around the world will be graduating soon and entering the real world. Our time in college as undergraduates is coming to an end very soon. May is not that far away, and then we will have to get big boy and girl jobs and be the adults we have never thought we would become. Leaving college is scary because you will no longer be living in a little town full of your friends. I will miss a lot about being in college, but here are 10 things I will miss the most.

  1. Going to sporting events. Nothing is better than being able to walk to the football stadium on a Saturday night and watch your team play. Or even being in the gym for a basketball game hearing the students cheering for their team.
  2. Campus events. Waiting in line to get custom things with our school's logo on it, getting free t-shirts, paint parties, concerts, contests, and many other things.
  3. Being able to hang out with my friends whenever I want. Besides doing school work day in and day out during the week, and sometimes weekends, we actually hang out with our friends. A lot. Being in a small college town, we are all within walking distance of each other. If I feel like going to see a friend in an off campus apartment, it will only take me about 10 or 15 minutes to walk over and see them. I will truly miss the friends I have made in college, but they say that the friends you make in college will last a lifetime.
  4. Wal*mart trips. Wal*mart trips here are probably different from Wal*mart trips at other colleges, but here you can go to Wal*mart for one thing and leave an hour later and forget to even buy what you went there for in the first place. When you're bored, sometimes you go to Wal*mart and walk around, maybe play with the kid toys, buy a board game, or some candy you don't need. In a small town like this, there isn't much around but Wal*mart, so we frequently take it for granted, and go for no reason at all.
  5. Only having to worry about making it to class and doing your homework. Because we don't have to worry about keeping up with bills or anything like that. We just have to make sure we set our alarm for the right time and actually wake up when we hear it.
  6. Snow days!! Snow days in college are so much fun. You just sit there and wait for that email to pop up on your phone saying class is cancelled, and then once you finally get it, you go out to play in the snow.
  7. Going to the cafe only for ice cream and fried chicken Friday. I don't know about anyone else, but the only two things I will miss about the cafe are the unlimited ice cream you can get, and the fried chicken and mac and cheese every single Friday.
  8. The small community/town that college is. College is literally like living in a small town. You can walk around campus every day, and see at least one person you know. Sometimes all it takes to make your day is seeing a friend flash you a smile!
  9. Being able to be a "college kid". Being a college kid is something special. Some people don't get to experience it, and they will never truly understand what it is like. It has its ups and downs, but deep down inside, we all love the fun times, and even the struggles, that come with it.
  10. NAPS. Let's be real for a second. Every college student takes naps, no matter what they say. It is the highlight of their day, and they look forward to it from the moment they wake up. When we all graduate and have to enter the real world of being an adult, naps probably won't be as common anymore. They have become a part of our lives since being in college, and have been our best friends at times, but soon we will have to let them go. I now regret every nap I didn't want to take as a child.
I am really going to miss college. It has been some of the best years I have had. I met a wonderful guy, and made some friendships that will last a lifetime. It will be so weird leaving at the end of the semester, knowing I won't be moving back in after summer is over. Although I will miss college, I am excited about the new chapter of my life, and I will never forget the wonderful memories I made in college.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
