The way things are going in the world today, it can be easy to look around and wonder, Where is God? I mean, awful things are happening all over the place. People are being killed, people are being divided, people are intentionally hurting one another. Children are growing up without knowing what it feels like to be safe or even what it feels like to be loved. People are allowing greed get the best of them. Innocent animals are being slaughtered unnecessarily. Our environment, and our once beautiful luscious planet and it's resources are being taken advantage of by humans chasing wealth and power.
Even though things may not be going well in our world, today, where it is hard to see God in any of it, I still like to think that God is with us through it all. I find comfort in the scriptures. These are a few of my very favorite verses I like to reflect on.
Romans 8:18
"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us."
Romans 5:8
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Psalm 147:4
"He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name."
Isaiah 43:2
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze."
Romans 8:31
"What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"
Exodus 14:14
"The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."
Psalms 93:4
Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea -- the Lord on high is mighty."
Proverbs 3:6
"In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
John 13:7
"Jesus replied, 'You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.'"
Psalm 121
I lift up my eyes to the mountains -- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
