It's mid-November and there's one thing on every college student's mind: holiday break. Whether it's looking forward to Thanksgiving break, a wonderful time where people can stuff their faces and go shopping the next day, or counting down the days until the end of finals week, college students cannot wait until they back home recovering from fall semester. Unfortunately, there's still a lot of work to be done. Besides the impending storm that is finals week, this is the time of the semester where project deadlines and exams are accumulating so students need to stay focused. This is also a time where motivation is low, but we need to remember that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. For those who go to scripture for inspiration, here are 10 Bible verses to get you through the rest of the semester:
1. "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:7 NIV
If the stress of school or life ever gets to be too much for you, always remember you can turn to God. A simple prayer about your worries or anxiety may be just what you need to feel better.
2. "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" - Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
God has our whole lives planned out, and He has great things planned for us all. It's up to us to see our full potential, but we do not need to be stressed out or worried about the future. We get to choose how to reach God's plan for us. No matter what God wants us to prosper.
3. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10 NIV
No matter what challenges college throws you inside or outside of the classroom, God will give us the strength to endure anything.
4. "The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1 NIV
Just another reminder that we have nothing to fear when God is the center of our lives.
5. "Jesus replied, 'You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.'" John 13:7 NIV
College is the stage of life where 90% of the time you're confused or have no idea what's going on. In all of the confusion, keep telling yourself that the pieces will eventually come together and everything will make sense.
6. "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16 NIV
Don't let the stress of the semester get to you, show yourself and others that you embody Christ through your actions. This can be as simple as smiling at people while you walk to class, or do small favors for your friends and loved ones. A little bit of light is never a bad thing.
7. "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him." James 1:12 NIV
Just as God will reward those who persevere with eternal life, you will be rewarded in some way for getting through the semester. Your reward could be that GPA you worked hard for, going home and having a break from school, or just the sense of accomplishment you should feel after finishing a tough semester. College is difficult, be proud of the fact you're here. You're doing better than you think.
8. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea," Psalm 46:1-2 NIV
This is a good verse, especially with everything that has been going on in the world. No matter what comes our way, we can fall back to Christ and know that we will be okay. Just think of the most recent events that have happened and the world is still turning.
9. "Praise be to the Lord, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege." Psalm 31:21 NIV
In times of crisis, the Lord will always be there to fill us with love.
10. "Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken." Psalm 62:6 NIV
The Lord will always be there as a safe place for us to turn, so you should never feel weak or afraid.
We are getting so close to the end of the semester. While it is completely normal to feel discouraged or worn out, there are plenty of reasons why we need to keep going.
