My favorite part of Black History Month is the NAACP Image Awards because I love seeing women that look like me be awarded for their contributions to the entertainment industry. There is a lot of discrimination in Hollywood and policing behind what hairstyles are acceptable, what roles black people are casted in, and sexualization and objectification of black actors and actresses in movies. I love how the NAACP Awards allows women like me to express their true selves in their outfit, live performances, and their award acceptance speeches.
