Wake isn't necessarily politically dominate on one side versus the other, but there is a divide.
The degree of this divide isn't necessarily a bad thing; however outside of our small collegiate community the divide is much greater and has reached damaging portions. Wouldn't it be great if you could be political without being political. Being able to experience the best parts of politics, wanting to promote social good and help people without all the bull* power grabbing and party dominance.
A new outlet is coming to Wake, where you can be as politically unique as you wish. There is no criteria, no standard, no guidelines for you to follow. No party, no side you are forced to join, no enemy you automatically assume while joining an ally. Everyone is your ally and no one is your enemy. The only enemy is partisanship; unwillingness to listen, hear, respect and compromise. We all want to be smarter, to know more, be better equipped to help people. At the end of the day, that is the only thing I want to do is, help people. That is something everyone in No Labels shares. We are not yet cynical about the political process. We still believe politics is a powerful tool for change. That the rule of law is too important to be left in the hands of political pawns and power grabbers.
No Labels hopes to make an impact on campus; here are few things we are working on and hope to accomplish. Create an "informed voter" pledge, bring political speakers to campus, find common ground between College Democrats and College Republicans, identify local politicians who met No Labels' problem solver criteria, host debate meetings and series, identify and sponsor local and federal legislation that is both bi-partisan in nature and will solve the problems that plagues our nation, like weekend voting.
This is something I feel particularly passionate about, mainly because I'm the one starting it. Grant Ferowich, a senior philosophy and economic double major has a vision for college students' involvement in the political process at a state and national level. We see No Labels as the perfect vehicle to share this vision among our peers. So if you have any interest in politics regardless of affiliation or background, if you enjoy debating and learning No Labels is certainly the organization for you. If anyone has any questions about our goals, intentions, agenda, status on campus, anything at all about No Labels; Grant and myself would be excited to answer your questions.
Here are both of our e-mails, sossjd12@wfu.edu and ferogj11@wfu.edu. It
isn't enough anymore to demand change from our politicians, we must
show them the change we want to see.
