I write even though it has nothing to do with my major, minor, or my life plan. So why do I write? Is it just a way to vent my thoughts? Is it a way to try to make money? Is it a way to think of a new career? I can tell you that it's none of these options. Writing is art. It's beautiful. Just like any art form, it has to be put into practice. The more you write, the better you will be at writing. It's just like working with an instrument. The more you practice, the better you become.
And what is art but another form of worship? I know, I know, cheesy Christian answer, but you're going to find those with crazy people like me. But I'm perfectly fine with that. Everything is supposed to be worship and glorifying to God, so I tend to make references to that on a pretty regular basis. Anyway....
As art is a thing of worship, shouldn't we perfect it? If you have a gift for anything, you'll work on making it better right? That's why there are writing majors and famous authors. Now, in no way am I saying that I belong to any of these categories. I'm just a fan-girl who loves to read. I find the beauty in other people's writing and want to add some more beauty to the world. That's why I write. I want more and more people to see God's beauty in any way they possibly can.
Writing is simultaneously a gift and a skill, and like any skill, it can be practiced and improved. God works in mysterious ways and uses things is ways we never imagined. No matter our skill level in writing, He can still be glorified. So as you write, don't forget that all this in the end is for God. Keep writing and practicing that skill. Enjoy what you are writing. Yes, it will come with frustrations. Yes, you will face writer's block. It happens. What's important is that you don't let it stop you from ever writing. Use that skill that God has given you.
No matter what that skill is that God gave you, don't let a block stop you. Be it writing, singing, playing an instrument, painting, or some other art form, blocks happen. Don't let them stop you. Let that struggle help you to grow and help you become a better artist. Become a better artist and glorify God so much more than you ever were able to before.
