Tuesday, April 17th marks two years with my boyfriend.
He's my best friend, he's one of my biggest supporters, he's devoted, and he's one of the humblest individuals I know. He completely changed my life when he came into it, and has taught me a lot about love and life. While there's so much I've learned from him and our relationship, I'm only going to talk about two lessons that are particularly substantial:
1. Love is about give and take, not competition.
In relationships, there's going to be days when you give more and days when you take more; there will also be days when the give and take is pretty balanced.
Individuals in healthy relationships are okay with giving and taking as needed and love their S.O. regardless.
Love is not about competition. You work together, you grow together, you're happy together.
2. Not all boys are the same.
It's really easy to think that all boys are going to be like the boy who "broke your heart" in high school, but when you meet the right boy, you'll soon find out that not all of them are the same.
There are boys in the world who will hold the door open for you. There are boys in the world who can be trusted. There are boys who will respect you. There are boys who will love you, even at your worst and most vulnerable.
I love you, Nate!
