6 Types Of Toxic Parents That Need To Stop Existing In 2020

In This Article:

I don't know what's worse: knowing that there's toxicity in my life and wanting to escape from it, or having the same toxic parents do a complete 360 and become amazing parents in the blink of an eye.

They totally convince you that they haven't been gaslighting you for the past 18 years of your adolescence.

Anyways, here are 6 types of toxic parents that I've heard about that still shake me up to this very day.

The Traditional, Conservative, Racist Parents

All these parents do is brag about how their own culture is the shit, and anyone with a different type of background or culture is nothing, and close to feces.

These parents won't let their children hang out with people of different racial backgrounds, and if they ever do find out, they will view you as "one of the trash bags" they find on the streets.

On top of being completely close-minded, they want to prevent you from having any kind of individual thinking such as buying your own clothes, going out with your own group of friends, going after the boys/girls you like, etc.

The list never stops, they'll only approve if it sticks to their own mini handbook that they never look through, and the rules that they make up along the way every time you make a mistake.

The Hypocrites

Hypocrites are the worst of the worst, because when they say certain things, we can't call them out. But when we say or do the same exact things, we get crap for it.

They never own up to their own mistakes, and when we actually take responsibility for our own actions, they make the types of facial expressions that make you wanna scream out their label and storm out of the house.

It's even worse when you're stuck with them, because you have to prepare for every last minute of their accusing.

The Immature Parents

I thought I wouldn't be dealing with kids when I was around adults like my parents.

But unfortunately, my parents were a different type of "immature." My dad and mom would ask me to communicate between the two of them, while their responsibilities as parents were pushed onto me because they believed that since I was grown up, I should be able to do what they need to do for the family.

That's wrong, of course. No parent should ever push their responsibilities onto you, just because they believe you're old enough and that you need to be a good sister for your little brother.

You can definitely help with the chores and the babysitting, but never fully take over. Ever.

The MIAs

They're your parents, and they should be there when you need them.

But not the MIA's. They put themselves before their kids, and when their children are suffering from bullying, low self-esteem, anxiety, or a breakup, they are nowhere to be found.

Their common catchphrase is "suck it up," and then a second later, they're right out the door. Without even checking up on their child. And then they wonder why their children hate them so much...

The Aggressive Tiger Parents

They claim to want what's best for you, but really, they're just trying to kill you.

Sending you to prep during the summer and winter breaks, having a curfew of 6 p.m., and not letting you hang out with people on consecutive days of the week when homework and exams are the top priority... the list keeps on going.

These parents believe that being strict and tough on your kids leads to great results. They believe that the harder they push you, the more you'll succeed in all aspects of life.

The All-Of-The-Above Parents

No words. Basically the toxic of the toxics. The worst of the worst. The everything-in-one combo.

The type of parents that make you ask, how on Earth was I even able to be conceived in this family?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
