6 Ways To Fight Travel Delay Boredom

Summer vacation is a time to relax, have fun, and travel! But with travel inevitably comes travel delays. In fact, as I write this article, I am sitting on the floor of LAX after waking up at 3:30 a.m., fueled only by a Venti cold brew, while my flight is delayed for an indeterminate amount of time. Luckily for me, and any other people who may encounter travel delays, there are plenty of activities to keep you occupied if you get stuck in an airport.

1. Get some work done

Giphy

Since it is summer, you may not actually have any school work to take care of, but you could catch up on emails and texts you may have fallen behind on or, in my case, write an article. It's not the most exciting or adventurous course of action to take, but it's definitely a productive use of your time.

2. People watch

Giphy

You can find some pretty interesting people if you just sit back and observe your surroundings. Also, you might even spot a celebrity! Especially at LAX, which is one of the best places to spot celebrities period. Once, I was on the same plane as the cast of "Impractical Jokers" while they were on their way to San Diego Comic Con. Not exactly an A-List sighting but definitely more exciting than nothing.

3. Explore the terminal

Giphy

Airport terminals are literally made for hanging out between flights, so don't be afraid to explore. While exploring at LAX, I have found a $25 bag of M&Ms that I'm positive I could've bought for $5 at the drug store and a whole storefront devoted to Spanx, and I haven't even walked the whole terminal yet.

4. Eat

Giphy

Eat your own snacks. Find a cool snack you haven't had before. If you have enough time, grab a meal at a restaurant inside the terminal. Why not? Plane food can be gross so don't chance it.

5. Get your cardio in

Giphy

Just walk around! You're gonna be in a confined space where walking around is difficult, so get it out of the way while you can!

6. Research the place you're headed to

Giphy

Figure out some must-see attractions or highly rated restaurants that you want to scope out when you get wherever you're going. If the delay occurs while you're heading home, then maybe take this time to edit and post some pictures of your latest adventure.

7. Sleep

Giphy

Sleeping on planes can be challenging and uncomfortable, so catch some Zs while you're delayed. Just make sure you wake up in time to get on board when it's time.

Next time you find yourself stranded in an airport, hopefully you'll be able to find a way to pass the time before embarking on your next adventure. Bon voyage and happy trails!

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

Who could be a better friend than your own sister?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
