We live in the day and age of Facebook. At least, I think people still use Facebook in 2019. Facebook is a bit like the obnoxious relative of social media websites. It's nobody's favorite, but it's been there for as long as you can remember at this point so you'll still pay attention to it every once in a while, even if you are fully aware of how much better your life would be without it.

Just like an obnoxious relative, Facebook never seems to shut up, spewing random facts and stories that nobody really seems to care about. The majority of what gets posted to Facebook is essentially garbage, but it doesn't have to be. You can be a part of the change that Facebook needs just by keeping a few things in mind. Here are 5 tips for making sure that your next Facebook post isn't absolutely awful.

1. Don't post about food

It's 2019, and yet some people still think that their Facebook friends actually care about what they are having for dinner. Don't be one of these people. Don't post pictures of your meals. Do you really think anyone has ever looked at one of those posts and thought to themselves "wow, my life was made better because of looking at this picture." We get it, it's food. We don't need you to post about it.

2. Don't get too political unless you're actually saying something interesting

Many people have used Facebook as an outlet for ranting about their political views, but it always makes me laugh when someone goes on and on for several paragraphs regurgitating the commonly held views of their party, basically just copying and pasting an overly biased news story. Unless you actually have a unique or interesting perspective on something, which 90% of people don't, then don't bother spending 30 minutes writing a post about it. You're just stating the commonly held views of your political ideology, so you might as well just post "I'm a conservative" or "I'm a liberal" and you will have literally communicated the same information that you would have in your tediously created rant.

3. Don't be overly impressive

Also, don't use Facebook as a place to brag about your accomplishments, no matter how humble the brag may seem. If you do something that is actually impressive or noteworthy, posting about it will simply make your Facebook friends feel even worse about how terrible their lives are. These people have already wasted their entire day scrolling through meaningless social media content, so you wouldn't want to make them feel any worse about themselves than they already do, would you?

4. Don't post pictures from your vacation

If you go on some amazing vacation to some wonderful place, posting about it is another guaranteed way to make your Facebook friends feel terrible about themselves and their own miserable lives. On the other hand, if you go on vacation to some normal, not particularly nice place and post about that, then why would anybody care? Vacation posts are a lose-lose situation, so just don't do it.

5. Don't share results from whatever stupid quiz you just took

This one often drives me insane. I don't really care which Disney character you are or which 90's movie best represents you. I understand the fact that you felt the need to take whatever quiz you just took, but do the results really affect or benefit me in any way? No, usually not. So, maybe think twice next time before making your ridiculous quiz results public.

Facebook was intended to make the world smaller and more connected, but it has really just made the amount of time that I can stand to be on social media smaller and smaller. However, if you just follow these simple tips, you will no longer be a part of the Facebook problem. Just follow this advice as you craft your next post, and you may just be able to create something that isn't absolutely terrible.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
