7 Things To Talk About At Thanksgiving Dinner, Besides Your Future

The fear of going home and being drilled with questions about your future and your plans is a real fear that most of us college students have. Here are 7 things you can talk about this holiday season that AREN'T about your future!

1. Climate change

"No Aunt Jane, I don't have a boyfriend, but it doesn't matter because THE EARTH IS GOING TO DIE before I have time to get married."

It's never too late to try and get your family #woke

2. Their lives

"Oh I'm doing well cousin Bob, but how are you? How is YOUR career going?"

People like to talk about themselves, get your family talking about their lives instead.

3. Vines

"Yea my grades are awesome, but do you want to see something REALLY awesome? Check out this relatable 6-second video!"

I showed my family one vine once and they still reference it.

4. Christmas

"Instead of talking about my boring life, let's talk about the magic of Christmas!"

Or also what I want for Christmas...

5. Food

"Wow this food is delicious Grandma, let's talk more about how you made it."

Food is the easiest subject to bring up on Thanksgiving, that's 90% of the holiday! Besides...remembering how awful we were to Native Americans?

6. Fashion

"I just love your sweater cousin Sara, I just got a new pair of boots I think you'd love!"

Fashion is rarely a charged or stressful conversation.

7. The weather

When all else fails, you can always talk about the weather!

Hopefully, one of these topics can help you escape the terrifying experience of confronting the fact that you have no idea what you're doing with the rest of your life and you are very single. If nothing works, just hang out with the young children, they don't even know what college is!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
