We can't help but notice when turning our gaze
That nothing is sacred, and everything fades.
It's hard to be upbeat, but easy to feign;
And now we are lost, with nothing to gain.
To whom do we cling to? From where do we run?
When life is so simple, how can we have fun?
The dark is unsettling, but light scars our eyes;
We all play the long game, but none win the prize.
Despite all our flaws, we still feel accepted;
Though when we're at home, we may feel neglected.
The goal is success, but the path there is tough;
Despite all our blessings, the judge calls our bluff.
Hope is a fickle thing, love is uncertain;
The darkness within us is all but a burden.
The endgame draws closer, but yet time seems frozen;
Today our fate finds us, our souls have been chosen.
It's not always here, it's not always there;
You can't always sense it, you don't always care.
But if you can catch it, you might come to find
There's a whole lot more out there, once you open your mind.
