The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls is one of my favorite books of all time. In the book, Jeanette shares the story of her unusual childhood that led her to become the triumphant woman she is today. I read the book for the first time when I was in high school and I remember thinking that with how beautifully written it was, it would make an amazing movie. Alas, the time has finally come!
Lionsgate decided to adapt the book into a movie and I couldn't be more excited to see it! Check out the trailer below:
IMBD's description of the movie is: "A young girl comes of age in a dysfunctional family of nonconformist nomads with a mother who's an eccentric artist and an alcoholic father who would stir the children's imagination with hope as a distraction to their poverty."
It's rated PG-13 for "mature thematic content involving family dysfunction, and for some language and smoking."
Of course, with any book that is adapted into a movie, there's a chance that it won't do the book justice. I encourage everyone to grab a copy of The Glass Castle and experience the magic of Jeanette's writing for yourself, and then go watch the movie.
I do have high hopes for this adaptation; The director, Destin Daniel Cretton, also directed "Short Term 12", (2008 & 2013) and "The Shack" (2017), and the cast is phenomenal. Take a look:
Brie Larson (pictured above) is playing Jeanette Walls, the main character of the film. If Brie looks familiar she also played as Grace in "Short Term 12" (2013) and has won an Academy Award for Best Actress and an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture for the 2016 film, "Room."
Naomi Watts (pictured above) is cast as Rose Mary Walls, Jeanette's mother, in the film. You might remember Naomi from "Twin Peaks" TV Series (2017) or her latest film, "King Kong," produced in 2005.
Woody Harrelson (pictured above) is playing the role of, Rex Walls, dad of Jeanette and Husband of Rose Mary. Woody is best known for playing Woody Body from "Cheers" has been nominated for two Oscars and has won a variety of awards throughout his career.
Other noteworthy actors and actresses of the cast include: Max Greenfield (Schmidt from "New Girl"), Andrew Shaver (David from "Reign"), and Dominic Bogart (Joe from "Fear the Walking Dead")
The Glass Castle is set to be released on August 11, 2017.
