Poetry on Odyssey: Think With Your Hearts
There is more to a person than meets the eye.
Do you see all these people lying in the street?
They are tired and hungry.
Life has got them beat.
Humanity walks by, we don't care to help,
We say, "They can get a job for themselves."
We look away in disgust as if they're less than human,
Oh please don't believe in that stupid illusion!
Sure, some are drug and alcohol addicts.
SOME.
Each person's story is not that easy to predict.
There are things about each person that we don't know.
There are people with mental and physical disabilities,
For an employer to hire them, there is little possibility.
Some have to run away from the violence in their homes,
Some got so scared because it was like living in a war zone.
What's the matter with the world today?
Why are the needs of our brothers and sisters so easy to downplay?
We don't need to give them monetary donations,
Just one little thing to help better their situation.
In the Bible it says,"Love your neighbor…"
Helping another person is such a small labor.
So next time you see a person on the street,
Think with your heart and not with your eyes,
Each time you do that, maybe humanity will start to equalize.
Everyone has a story, they're not all lazy bums,
They just have nowhere to go, no resources,
No home.
Even if you have nothing tangible to offer,
Slow down, meet their eyes and give them a smile,
It will be worth it all the while.
You will make their day,
In such an extraordinary way.
