There Is Depth Within My Beauty
Always remembering to wear my invisible crown.
They call it the power of black girl magic!
You know, black excellence and perfect melanin. People with sun-kissed skin and just a hint of chocolate that will confirm a swayed mind's expectation of this before "unfamiliar specimen". "
More often than not we can be found getting asked a simple question of 'what?'
What are you mixed with, that is.
It's funny because a beautiful being is what the eye may see but a powerful force is what I tend to be.
It's simple.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, a black queen is what you may call me."
Years ago I was just naive enough to think that we are all no different.
But now, you see now, I am just arrogant enough to say that NO we are not the same!
The difference between you and I is that yes, sometimes tears do drip, my soul gets pierced, scars appear and, practically, I don't always appreciate the beauty that is here. But, at the end of the day I pick up my feet and I lift my head. I look past that mirror's reflection and I see that crown, my crown, is still there and oh so visibly clear.
It took me a while to realize this but sometimes you have to take a step back. In this step, we not only have to look but we need to look long with appreciation to both inner and outer beauty.
